Fix for the bumper supports issue?
I think most savage owners know what I am talking about. I'm not a huge fan of using 100 zip ties to hold my savage together:lol:. I know freeze tried out a plastic doo-dad but it broke. Is there anything else on the market? Thanks,

I think you mean the support struts for the bumpers and yeah, I know Team TCS was working on some but the prototypes didn't hold up, I was one of the testers.

I'm with ya on this one...I think looking at it from the perspective of eliminating the bumpers might help. You then have to figure out how to retain the pins somehow....When I have mine apart over the next couple weeks, I'll see what I can think up.

IMHO, removing the bumpers would be a bad idea. I use them A LOT lol.

I should have said it differently. In problem solving, you need to break things down to their smaller components. So once you remove the bumper, the primary function of the bumper support is to retain the hinge pins. How would you retain those pins if the bumper supports werent there....mount a plate somehow? Gotta be some way to do it. One thing about it, those bumper supports absorb a LOT of energy. So what ever the answer is, its gonna have to provide that same absorbing quality, or take that load somewhere else. |

Look what showed up on HPI's new parts list
http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/102538/ Sway bars that also capture hinge pins :yipi: |
I saw the bars last week - just didn't occur to me that they captured the pins.

Something tells me those wouldn't last very long on a heavy bash session

Before I put on a zip tie to keep the supports together, I tried putting a set screw in the side of the diff cover to reatain the pin. I could only fit a 3mm screw, and it wasn't quite enough to retain the pin (couldn't TQ enough), but perhaps if a flat spot was made on the end of the pin it would work better.
Never really tried as the zip tie has been working really well since. |
Was hooking up some led lights on the savage and for some reason thought about this thread and got side tracked on the lights. This is what I came up with.

That's basically what I was thinking too.
