Oil in flux tranny
I know a few of you have tried this, but it leaked out. I just put some gasket maker on it and hopefully it will hold oil. However, I am not entirely sure what wt. oil to use. I have some 500K that I used for the diffs but that might be a bit thick. I don't want to have too much drag. For anyone that has tried this, what wt. oil did you use? My hopes are that this works out and can kind of be a guid for future flux'ers.

Lucas or stp oil sabilizer appears to be the best bet. Not much is used, just enough to puddle at the bottom at rest and allow the teeth of the lowest gear to pick it up, the mesh of the gears will spread it out evenly. Some silicone on the case halves should seal the tranny just fine.

Well for one thing, the center diff isn't designed to hold any oil so im not surprised it leaked. Second, if you could get oil to stay in the tray, your just going to induce a higher load on the motor, thus on your ESC and thus on your batteries and and the tranny isn't designed to split loads, so whats the point of this? Throw some heavy grease on the gears if your worried about friction and call it good. The flux IS NOT a truggy, why the hell do people keep modifying and expecting monster trucks to be something there not designed to be?

If you can get some grease that doesn't fling, that's all you need to keep those gears happy. I like the idea of oilling the tranny, and I think Oil Stabilizer would probably be the best bet to run in it. Seal it up with some silicone and it should be fine. 500k in the front/rear diffs is like nearly locking them and would make for a terrible lubricant for the reasons Freezebyte stated, way too much drag.

I doubt there is any grease that won't fling off the gears. Freeze, I thought you were one of the people that tried oiling the tranny? I havn't put oil in it yet, I just remember seeing someone else have it leak everywhere. Not sure where your going with the truggy thing but oook.

Hmm, I put in some of the STP oil treatment..Seems pretty thick. The only real reason I did it was because the tranny is already out, and I figured I might not toast the HD drive gear, however it sounds like that might not be an issue in the first place. I put the HD drive gear in a while ago but havn't run it yet.

No experience with the Savvy trans, but STP has worked very well for me. It's important to use no more than neccessary to keep the gears wet, otherwise drag will become a factor as if you were still using grease. One teaspoon or maybe two would be plenty for the trans. I also run it in my diffcases, so much more effective than grease.
You can still use whatever silicone inside your diff cups, as long as they're sealed there will be no fluid intermingling. You should have great results as long as you don't use too much and I recommend the STP for any gear applications! |
