Converting .MOV files into .WMV or whatever for WMM?
I have a ton of vids of my newer dig cam, but they are all in stupid quicktime .mov format, and windows movie maker doesn't read them.
I've tried converting them to other formats a number of different ways, but nothing is working well. Does anyone have any good ideas? I've tried SuperC with no luck, as well as a few other converters, and even online converters. The last worked, but was really slow as you had to upload/wait/DL your file. Any other good movie making proggies? I know there was one by Adobe that otello used to make his cool eagletree data sync'd vids. Any others that are good? I've dl'd a few free ones, and a one cheap one, and they all were a PITA one way or the other. I don't mind buying one if I know its going to work well and continue to be supported (like the adobe.) I've got a ton of vids and I don't want to waste a bunch of time on a crappy program. |
download and install the "K-lite codec pack"
this allows windows media player to play ANYTHING!!! but as for converting, i use "any video converter" |
I've used "Any Video Converter" also for some time now. Works good for the small amount of videos I deal with. Free Also.
http://www.any-video-converter.com/p...or_video_free/ Guess it depends on how much you want your video editor to do. I've tried the Windows Movie Maker but it always seems to crash get hung up while I am almost done with a project and half to restart it over again. I've used Neros version of an editor off and on. I think it is called Nero Vision and it has atleast been more stable. I also just found a free probram that makes combining and simple editing a breeze to do. If the two files are the same resoulution and bite rate. It called VideoEditMaster I downloaded it off of the cnet a while back. http://download.cnet.com/Video-Edit-...html?tag=mncol I also downloaded the K-Lite codec pack like Shaun mentioned above. I was having problem between the avi mov mpeg, mpeg4, wmv, asf, vob, etc etc etc etc..... |
I thought I dl'd the K-lite quite a while back. I know my software will do .mp4 and I thikn divx. Perhaps my version is way old? Hard to remember all the crap I've dl'd onto it over the years.
Are you sure K-lite will will do the .mov files? Searching around, it sounded like WMM wouldn't do apple QT movies at all b/c some dumb format war between M$ and Apple. Has anyone used Sony Vegas? Was doing some reading and it sounded like a good program. The adobe suites sounded like they are unstable and resourse intensive. |
Playing vids : VLC, it's free and it rocks
Converting files : TMPGenc |
I use FormatFactory to convert all my videos. It works great, though I've never tested it with .mov files. It's worth a shot though.

Just found this, looks like it could be very useful!
"Ever had a movie where you could hear only the sound but there were no video. Or only video and no sound. CodecInstaller is here to help you understand which codec you need and to let you install it in minutes. CodecInstaller is a Windows program that detects the Audio and Video codecs installed on your system, analyzes files to understand which codecs they require and suggests you to install them. CodecInstaller can also be used to distribute video files on a CD, to be sure that who receives the CD will have all the necessary codecs installed with a single tool he will be able to check if the codecs are already installed and up-to-date." http://download.cnet.com/CodecInstal...html?tag=mncol |
