Just thought I would share my new build XT8

So this is something I have been slowly building. I originally had a XB808 mate for her. I thought it would be cool to have a xray pair but I dont get to the track as much as I would like to, due to 55hr work weeks. I think imo that the Truggy is so much more fun just to mess around with so I just sold the xb808 this week. I am cutting back the fleet. I also sold the Losi 8T I had just cause I thought one truggy was enough. Another reason I sold some was due to my current obsession with SC trucks...OBSESSION. lol.

Took this around the house just now and everything is quite flawless....but what did I expect from Xray.

Really I posted this also to share the way I mounted my esc with spare aluminum off the servo tray. I dont know how original it is but I thought it turned out pretty smooth looking.

I tried to off-center the esc a bit to put some more weight to the motor side to balance the weight of the lipo a bit. I dunno...well see how she does on the maiden voyage tomorrow.

Clean looking truck there. Looks awesome!!

How did you mount the ESC there?

EDIT : Yeah I read the thread and looked at the pics, but I meant to say how does it say on that alu plate? I just read you widen one screw hole but how did you secure it to the plate then, I can't see that from the pics (but hey, I'm also a n00b so).

ps. watch out for the spur and the esc on/off switch and a vid would be +.

Did you read the post or look at the pics?

Yes, very clean looking truck. How is the range on the spektrum with that antenna like that? I used to do that with fm but figured spektrum was short enough already so haven't tried it yet.

bahahaha . That is funny.

Really that is the only reason I posted the pics was because its such a easy solution and using parts everyone will have from the conversion. Just cut the servo tray in half, widen one screw hole and whala its a uber sturdy mount that has factory finish. The blue is a layer of blue mask I put in the middle to prevent rubbing the finish off the other plate just in case I sell her one day. Doubtful any time soon.

The spektrum reciever is actually quite good. I ran it like this in my XB808 so I did not have to cut the body hole and keep a clean look. Although I AM having issues with distance with my dsm2 RXs with my DX3R. I have one of the old models that loses binding and the reception really kinda sucks on it as well. I plan to buy a cheapy DX3 or DX2 TX for a bit to send this in to get a overhaul. It was fine for crawling and is fine with the normal sr3001 or sr3005 Rxs but the receivers that it was intended for actually suck major. Very strange and sad for such a expensive radio. I really only got it for my crawling for mixing ability.

very clean conversion....congrats! you're going to love it. i just had mine out with some neighbors (also had my old emaxx out too) on sunday, and this thing just tears it up. i bashed around bouncing off poles, drove (accidentally) through a big, deep water puddle, did lots of cartwheels, and had a blast - after we drained a pair of 5050 5s packs in about an hour, it came in with a few scratches on the body and wing, and dirt. otherwise it was exactly the same as when i took it out. that thing is bulletproof. plus it was fun running circles around the emaxx. i'm absolutely thrilled with my xt8.

report back and let us know how it goes after your maiden voyage....and video wouldn't hurt!

Thanks I am excited just looking at it. I only need tires glued and body painted and its off. I really wanted to ie the wheels black also....we will see.

I like... I like alot. I've always loved the xray,

jasje 11.03.2009 02:49 PM

Nice build, I have exactly the same.
Btw why did you mount your front brace like that? It you should use the 2 screws at the left of it, unless there's a reason?

Desert Rc 11.03.2009 06:50 PM

The brace just wasnt bolted in. Its all in place now.

Dying the wheels....first time using RIT Dye. All went well Very black and no mishaps. I am shocked actually. I went ahead and did both sets of truggy wheels I had and also some Kyosho wheels for my mini revo since the dye was ready and steaming.
