Capacitors for my TV?
I have (and love) a 52" Samsung LCD TV. It started just clicking and not turning on when trying to power up. It's only a year and a half old!
Anyways, it turns out to be a common problem. A bank of 5 10v 1000uf capacitors on the power supply board fails. I'll go in there and solder in new ones, but the question needs to be asked. Should I upgrade? I don't want to do this once a year. So what would you put in as replacements? |
I recently had my Polaroid 32" LCD TV do the same thing.
I also heard they had this same problem. Haven't taken it apart yet though. A Bank of 5 10v 1000uf Caps? You can more. Like 15 of those same size. If there isn't space, then leave out one of the 5, and use its position to solder in jumper leads that go to the rest of the caps. Are you sure this is what happened? Opened it up yet? |
If the caps are the problem, try replacing them with these. Do that thing with the leads off the board and just use all 6 of them. These are very high quality caps- and I'm not a Panasonic spokesperson either... Those or anything equivalent made by Rubycon or Nichicon would be good, too.

In case anyone cares or is facing the same thing...
I did it today and it worked like a charm. The kids were driving me too crazy to wait for mail order, so I just ran to Radio Shack and picked up their 35v 1000uF caps and changed them. Took all of half an hour. If you youtube "Samsung repair", you'll see exactly what the TV was doing and the repair. |
Cool. Let's just hope the RS caps hold up better...

my 19'' computer monitor just went out last night. it was flickering just slightly and without warning, went black. now, when i power it up, it will flash every 3 seconds and the power light will stay on until the flashes. i'm guessing it has bad caps too. time to break in my new 80watt soldering iron:party:

If you bought it at costco or with a visa card the manufacturer warranty is doubled. Nt sure if you did either though.
