wich ESC/motor

i am looking into converting my TTR ER-1[1/8 scale TC] from nitro> BL

but i amnt sure on what system to get i had been looking at the speedpassion silverarrow ESC/3.5motor but that was till i noticed it was sensored setup, and have noticed the sensored motors are a bit more pricey compared to unsensored motors

i have had a look at geting the castle MMM but am now having trouble on finding unsensored motors of about 4500kv > 6000kv

if anyone can advise me on wich ESC/motor to use as i am new to the electric side of things and since BL seems to be a lot more reliable and faster than nitro

Why do you need such a high kv motor for? General rule of thumb is you want the brushless motor to spin about the same speed as the nitro motor that came out of it. I don't know the setup on the car you mentioned but I'm sure it's similar to most 1/8 vehicles. Your going to want to run at least 4s if not higher for efficiency. At 4s something in the 2000-2200kv range is generally used, 5s 1600-2000kv, 6s 1300-1800kv. A 4500-6000kv motor in a 1/8 would need to be geared with about a 5-6 tooth pinion to be useable without pulling enormous amps on start up

i had been advised to use a higher kv motor as its for a TC/onroad RC. and with the higher kv i could use a 2S or 3S lipo to save a bit more weight. if i was to run a high kv motor i guess i would need a lipo with a very high C rating then ?

the nitro egine that came out was a thundertiger pro .28BXr max RPM of about 35,000. i was also running a 13t/15t and once a 18t clutchbell

Need more info on that vehicle (size, weight, intended speed etc), and pictures, then some better advice on precise setup can be given

The SpeedPassion 1/8th Silver Arrow ESC has gotten quite a few bad reviews from what I've read. Lots of "Blew up on the first run" situations. Supposedly a V2 is going to be (or has been) released that fixes the issues, but I haven't really followed them at all.

Stick with a MMM or Tekin system and you can't really go wrong.

I run a 4000kv motor in my 1/8 onroad conversion with an Tekin RX8 ESC. It's plenty fast with 4s2p A123 pack. A 4s lipo would be alot quicker.

I'm assuming this is the car in question Thunder Tiger ER-1

yup thats the one thunder tiger.

i have been looking at the RX8 ESC its a bit more than i wanted to spend on it but had a couple of ppl say its good.

snellemin what sort of gearing are you running on your on road conversion ?

snellemin 11.03.2009 02:15 PM

My gearing currently is 51/20.
