help with motor choice?
ok i currently run a Feigao 9L in my rustler on 3S lipo
its geared 13/90 and hits a top speed of 50mph it runs at around 120*F constant for the whole run so im really pleased with that motor and how it runs but its got a bit old and has started running very hot recently so im looking to upgrade a bit ive been looking at Medusa motors, i hear they are similar in performance to Feigao but alot more efficient Medusa motors are also around the price i would like to spend but the question is: what Kv Medusa would i be best off going for? i deffinatly want a 60mm can like my feigao as i have run a 50mm and its just not the same but Mikes site confuses me a bit, according to the chart the closest Kv i can get to what i have now is 2000, but according to the list of motors to buy the choice is either 2200 or 3100.... so should i go lower or higher? if the Medusa will run cooler than the feigao i think i would be better off going for the higher Kv but im still fairly new so would be good to hear your opinions :) Thanks, Sam |
I have a crt.5 that I run on 3s and run a 50 series 3300kv Medusa. It runs fine and stays pretty cool. For a 3s set up go with a motor in the 3000 to 3500kv range. I f you really push the motor on a regular basis, you could go w/a bigger can motor....60 series medusa and you can gear up as needed for speed

i have just looked on the medusa site and they do make a 2200 and 3100, the top of the table it just cut off in Mikes shop
thanks, i deffinatly want a 60mm can the same as my 9L, i tried a 2200Kv 50mm Neu for a bit but in terms of power it just didnt even compare... i can drive the rustler with the Feigao all day and never get bored |
In my other crt.5 I run a 1509 3300kv Neu on 3s and the difference between the Medusa and Neu is substantial. The Neu runs coller, is faster and more efficient....but it costs almost $100- more

yeah im sure it was just because the Neu was a smaller can size, that one was on offer
unfortunatly i cant afford a 60mm can Neu :( so go for the 3100 60mm medusa? unless theres a similar/better motor around the same price/cheaper? |
im going to order it this weekend, hopefully it will come in time for a big bash im attending on the 28th
just one more thing, are the motors rebuildable? just afaik the only thing that can wear in a brushless motor is the bearings so would be nice to know i can replace them |
