Mamba Max on 5S in a truggy?
I've been dying to breathe life into my rolling RC8T for weeks now, but I'm on a budget. I've got a venerable old MM ESC lying in wait for it's next assignment, complete with a fan and Castle BEC. It never let me down running 4S in my buggies, so I'm thinking about slapping a Feigao 10XL (~1700kv, 66A) behind it and running Zippy 5S packs. Have any of y'all played with running a MM on 5S before? In theory it should work without problems, having even less amperage to heat it up. Just wanting to ask the experts.

The newer mm I believe will not handle 5s w/out some serious mods. and even then it was having trouble arming. Hence the reason for the mmpro which can do up to 6s and has the same basic foot print as the mm.

Depends greatly on which variation of MM you have. Check the caps; if you see they are 25v cap then I wouldn't try it.

yeh mate ,I've had mine on 5s for a long while and have mates also running 5s with the MM esc ,just uprade the wires to 12g wet noodle, should be sweet then.

If you're using motor brakes 5s is the highest I'd go due to voltage spikes. I'd also add some extra caps to be safe and a fan. If you run mechanical brakes, 6s will work on the MM with just a fan. An external BEC is a must of course on both.

MM is not spec'd for 4s, let alone 6s; anyone running 6s is walking on water, if you know what I mean.
Do it right, buy the MMpro. |

I have the MM Pro and couldn't be happier with it. It already has a fan, and is smooth as butter. If you ever have the desire to run a sensored motor, the MM Pro can do that too. |
Thanks for the input, guys. :yipi:

Why not get a MMM and be done with it?

My MM has the 25v caps. |

4s is fine, but 5s is begging for trouble IMO. +1 for the MM Pro, they seem solid and are built to handle the voltage.

I had a MM with external BEC on 4s in my truggy and it got HOT quick, even with a 40mm fan on it and another 90mm fan above it. I wouldn't run it over 4s. MM on 3s or 4s in a buggy is great, on a truggy, it can be tough on that little ESC. If you can keep it cool, then it will work fine on 4s. The problem is keeping it cool.

4s 4900mah and my truggy is on 4s 6500mah for track work and 5s 4900mah for bashing, both speedies have BEC's and 25mm fans on top. I've never had any issues with either MM speedy(maybe I got two good ones..????),I also own a MMM V3 speedy on a 6s powered 1/8 onroad. My advice to you is Just DO it, But keep an eye on your temps.........Fieagos run hot ,Why not look for a secondhand Medusa???? |
