wanting a 1/8 onroader, options
 

Wanting to build a 1/8 onroad car. Really want a inferno gt2, mainly just for the more scale appearance, but just can't fork out the cash to go that route. Wondering how close say an 8ight buggy, with an 8ight t chassis plate would come out wheelbase wise to fitting a gt2 body, mainly because I already have several losi 1/8's. Also are the shocks and towers a lower profile, widths from what I understand is just the same as standard 1/8 scale buggy. I have found a few inferno gt's for reasonably price, I wonder if the chassis plate from a gt2 is a straight swap. If you have one to compare with an 1/8 scale buggy, or have any input, please post it up. Thanks.

I did a 1/8 onroad conversion with the Mayhem buggy.
It cost me under $100.

-Kyosho inferno gt painted body $50
total $75
Get the real good tires Impanema 50. Excellent for out door Black top on road track.
Will last you the whole summer or if not longer.

How about a L8ight? just need a few parts to convert 8T or 8ight

Thought about that, I am just in love with the gt2 bodies, the extra length makes them look much more scale, I think the l8ight is the same length as the b. My plan at the moment is an 8ight, with 8igt-t chassis plate, and l8ight towers. Thanks again for the input, keep em coming.

I just converted my mbx-5 to onroad as well. ( I will get pics. up later today )The body cost 45-,( RUSTY XL-5 painted it for me ) tires were 60-, bumper and body mounts, 20- or so.

I traded the engine and all the nitro crap from my Muggy (RTR) for a Hyper 7 TQ (should be able to find a Hyper 7 on eBay for $100-$150), dropped $45 on a RC-M mount, $7 on a Tekno RC battery tray, $120 on a motor, and had a spare ESC. I splurged and bought 8.5 Pro big bore shocks, but the stock shocks with 90 wt. oil and stiff springs worked really well. A regular buggy has a center diff which you will either want to lock up or replace with something such as a torsen diff to make it easier to steer but I see no reason to spend all that money on a IGT when a cheap Buggy will do just fine.

The bodies are the main concern, IMO. Buggies have tall shock tower and big shocks which makes running the scale-looking bodies tough without looking really stupid. You could experiment with different setups for the shocks and towers to try to fit a scale body on it. I guess it all depends on how badly you want the scale look, IMO scalers are really cool and worth an extra couple hundred if you can swing the cash but there's nothing wrong with running a straight-up Buggy either.

I personally think any buggy can work just fine, with modifications. As said, the shocks/towers are the biggest issue. If you can find a tower that will fit without mods, great. If not, I'm sure a custom one can be made with some work. Then, Revo shocks would be a decent choice since they are pretty beefy, have relatively smaller range (don't need huge suspension travel in an on-road), and have a ton of spring options to choose from.

good thought on the revo shocks, happen to have some laying around. I'm going to order the l8ight towers tonight, and I guess a protoform pf8 body, really still stuck on the gt2 c6 body though. Just don't know if its worth the extra money for the body and trying to figures something out with the wheelbase just for it to look cool.

seeing as my mbx-5 on road needs suspension work, and Revo shocks seem to be a good choice....which springs? Should I get the stiffest ones I can find?

The tires are Ipanema Belted Radial Race Tires all weather slicks.
Got them at my local hobby shop Leisure Hours Hobbies.
They sell them on ebay also just type in Ipanema
They come as pre-glued ready to go.
The type I bought for $29.99 a pair are
Rims: White
Shore: 50
Inserts: Hard
Wheels: BBS
