CEN diffs have tanked in price w/ HPI BP Diff..
Just broke a pinion on by diffs. Went to ebay and was able to pick up a new diff for $16 shipped. They were going for $30-40+ not that long ago, but recent history has all been low.
I was going to try the HPIs, but at the current prices, fixing the CEN made much more sense. Thanks HPI on many levels! |
I have had a set of Cen diffs along with a pile of parts that have been sitting there for a year waiting to be built into a savage. I have been way too lazy to rebuild it. I felt bad as I modified a brand new set of out drives for them and then the new savage diffs came out.
Looks like the Cen diffs are still the way to go with those prices though. I remember the first few sets of cen diffs cost me between $12 and $16 originally. |
Do the new hpi diffs have the same ratio as the cens 26/9?
Edit: BrianG already has it in the speedcalc. Here the ratios: Cen 26/9 2.888888888888889 MPH +7.81 HPI 29/9 3.2222222222222223 MPH +1.43 Normal Savage Diffs 43/13 3.3076923076923075 MPH 0.00 FYI: MPH gained is just what came up when I listed my setup on the calc for the three differnt differential. |
I bought mine at the beginning of the year for less than $20, but as I was watching over the summer, I saw the prices drift quite a bit upwards. Presumably this was from a lot more people doing the diff conversions, and I'm guessing perhaps Flux owners as the the truck got popular over the summer, and all the diff issues were coming to light. For a while, a new diff couldn't be had for less than $30 for the most part (least the times I was watching.) I ended up having to order some spare parts from CEN directly as the diffs got too expensive to just order the whole thing.
Now that they are at cheaper levels again, its a good option. I saw CEN does have some steel* gears as a HD upgrade now, but there is not a cheap way to get them (least that I know of.) The end up being more than the HPIs BP set if you order them from places like TCS. *WTH.. steel? are the stockers alu or something? |
