use of deans connectors

i just purchased a new esc and am looking to run lipo batteries but im not sure on the most common setup for the connectors themselves. for example does the male plug go on battery or esc? and which side of plug does the red wire go on? i tried looking and a picture or two but want to be certain before soldering any help would be great

The Male plug goes on the ESC.

The female goes on the battery.

If you look really close, the polarity is marked on the plugs. Here's a picture of a female deans with the markings highlighted.

I hope this helps.

Never ever but a male deans on a batt. One touch to a metal surface and you short the batt out. Bad voodoo then.
