MMP Fan

Well took the MMP for a rather low run today. When i came off, the esc was quite hot (considering how long i had been running it for & wether temps). But the fan had not come on. Usually when i first plug in a batt, the fan will turn on for a split second, i guess to 'engage' or something to tell the user it works. But lately it hasnt been doing that. I will take it out to see if there is a loose connetion or any damage, but im pretty sure it will be fine. My last race meeting was a little muddy, i saw some mud around the top of the cage of the fan, but removed it straight away after seeing it...

Dumb question, but is it plugged in all the way? I had one die too - good thing they're easy to replace.

To test it, you could pull out the connector and apply power to it directly (using resistor leads inserted into the connector or something).

BrianG - as soon as i finished the first post, i went out & tested it with some small bare wire, it didnt go, but i knew i was getting power cause the bare wires crossed!!!

Yeah bud, it was fully plugged in. took me about half an hour to get the cover where the fan mounts, off the MMP, didnt wanna break anything, but finally the cover came off, took the fan out & applied direct power to it. So im fairly sure its safe to say i need a new fan, are they on the CC website or is there a special place to get them at??

Well, rather than start another thread, ill just post it in this one. I just recently upgraded firmware to 1.24 (beta) & am using castle link 3.220. I set motor timing on lowest, BEC voltage to 5.0v & there the only settings i changed. Took it for about a 10min run, came off hot motor, hot esc (remember fan dont work), but battery was fine.

Im running this in a slash, 58/12 32p gearing which is equiv to the stock 86/18 48p gearing, 4600kv motor. been running this gearing for quite a while with no probs apart from hot motor. I dont really want to go down another tooth on the pinion because the speed im getting is absolutely perfect.

I remember when i dl'd the CL 3.220 it said 'operating temps will be higher when using this version' or something along those lines. & i thought by lowering the motor timing, i thought that would have also prevented a little motor heat, im puzzled on this one....

Not sure if I like these Castle "temp sensitive" fans, at least with a constant fan running, users can see if a fan is working right from start up, and don't get the ESC into a situation where it's getting hot without the user knowing whether or not the fan will kick in.

Thinking I may remove the MM Pro fan and fit a large Hobbywing fan to the custom box my ESC sits in in the Slash.
