New MMM V3 from RCM
I bought a MMM form RCM. last month.
I expected to receive an V3 esc with battery wire directly soldered to pc board. However, what I received is with bullet connectors on pc board. I though the bullet input is in early bench of MMM esc and should not appear in this time. (Maybe I do not remember correctly.) Anyone has the same situation? My esc works well, just out of curiosity. |
it's probably a V3.0
same as the V3.1/.2 but with bullets on the battery side. |
This is the earlist batch of V3 according to Patrick of Castle.

New purchase and yet getting the earliest batch V3?
If that's true, I feel bad. |
no biggie.
nothing wrong with them...and IF it is somehow a V2 (V2 has flat top case) then you just got a 2 for 1 deal:yipi: |
It all blends together these days. Version 1 and 2 were simple enough to spot then v3 came with the .x subversions. Now v4's are in the midst with their tiny part difference. I've given up trying to keep track. Only version difference I care about is the one that will incorporate data logging. Until then, if it works then run it. :)

Still it might be good to know, maybe he could of picked the version he liked better, Maybe he lives halfway across the world and don't want to ship it in for warranty issues. OTOH I like the all bullet MMMs.

I do find it interesting, but it could be the cause of any number of things. Castle makes the ESC in large batches(thousands when first released). Many V2 ESCs were sent back for updates(or updated at Castle before sending out). Unless there was a FIFO inventory system happening(once all ESCs were V3, FIFo isn't too important - not like these things will "spoil" from sitting on a shelf), the ESCs being shipped out could be either version - and for a long period of time, depending on how quickly and how many V2 went back for updates. I use FIFo here, but I have gotten the MMM ESCs from several sources, depending on how many and how quickly I need them.
I do know we sent all our v2s back many months ago and have only had v3s for a long time(since the V3 was born). I suspect that the bullet version ESCs are few and far between at this point, and likely to be completely random. The only way to know would be to open the boxes before shipping it out(which would then create a different kind of speculation). The box surely says v3, which means it is a v3 ESC. I don't think you have anything to worry about. :) |
Probably an early v3 that hadn't been sold earlier, pushed to the back of the shelf or something.
When will we see the end of advertising which version of the MMM we're on? Mamba Maxes underwent a ton of changes over the years and there was no numbering on them. I'd like to see the version dropped and have them all blend together as the Mamba Monster. |

True, and it is nice to be able to tell them apart but sooner or later I think we should drop the focus on what version it is.
