Tried something different with my RC18T

Well I got bored tonight, sitting at home sick, so I cleaned off my workbench a bit and found an old 6 cell nimh pack for my RC18T. I decided to tear it apart and make a 4 cell pack for it.

I have a Mamba 25 esc and a 5400kv CC motor in it and on 6 cells or 2s lipo it's way to fast for using in my apt. I figured if I drop down to 4 cells it shouldn't be to bad. So I made the pack and since my apt is currently cluttered I went outside and tried it out. I am very impressed with the performance on just 4 cells and think it's prolly still to much for my apt, didn't really seem slower at all. I kept the same gearing, 60/17, maybe with a 15t pinion it'll be slow enough for my apt.

I was shocked that I still got pretty good run time, these cells have been sitting for over a year without use, from 4 cells 1100mah nimh I never thought I'd get 8-10 minutes. Even more surprising was that when I brought it in nothing was even warm! Granted it is about 30*F outside but usually the motor and battery gets warm. I didn't temp it but the motor and battery where both actually cold. I may just take apart my 2 remaining 6 cell packs and make three 4cell packs out of them!

Just thought I'd share my boredom project with you guys.

Also handling seemed to be slightly improved from the lighter weight and it's much more balanced from side to side now. Might take it to the local carpet track tomorrow and try it too.

After an 11 min run motor was 68*F, pack was 65*, and esc was 52*
