Motor mount for a XXL lst2

So hypothetically if I purchased a XXL Lst2 roller what would be the best Mount for going brushless or a conversion??

76Bentley 12.07.2009 01:12 AM

The best I have found out there is from "The Dude Racing" He really does beautiful machine work and it is a very cleaver design, very similar to the motor mounts in on road card that have a center that rotates for the gear mesh and then locks down.

Here is his website, he just did a run for the LST mounts, the single speed conversion he makes is nice too.

Not much else out there for the lst save for the tdr mount. You can get some sort of joke mounts from fine design, but most everyone will tell you to take a miss on dealing with him...

Ya Ive already had a run in with the owner of Fine Design. Long story but he was supposed to refund some credit due to a website misprint and return...long story short the credit never happened. I gave up as it was only $20 but still.

Sounds like the dude is that ticket....

Okay guys school me like a 3 year old what exactly do I need to get so I can her done with one order.

Well, What gearing do you want to use?

If you plan to use std set screw style pinions they only go up to 25t. I use a 23t pinion and the 63t TiN Losi spur with the tdr single speed hub. If you use the tdr motor mount you will not be able to use much less than a 23t pinion as the adjustment will not allow the motor to get any closer to the spur.

I would suggest buying the tdr motor mount, and his single speed hub. Make sure your desired motor/battery combo will allow you to use a 23-25t pinion and you can stick with setscrew pinions from rcm. They are the best pinions to use with the Tin spurs that losi offers. You can get a 59t spur, but you will have to use the 25t pinion, no smaller.

If you need larger than 25t pinion get the tdr colleted adapter, and use the 2nd gear rcm thread on gears he sells to go with his 2 speed adapter hub. They are the same thread as the tdr colleted adpater.

If any of that makes sense I will eat my hat. It is late and I am in full zombie mode.

+1 on the dudes mount

if i were you i would run the single speed, all i know is the hard shifting lst transmission destroys rear diffs if you are useing a big motor on 6 cell

i watched mikey84 go threw 6 properly shimmed diffs this year (sure he could of adjusted the slipper alittle but he doesnt listen and he's bigger than me! )

also right now his stuff is on sale ( 20% off) untill jan 15

we are useing the rcm pinion adaptor for the kyosho inferno gt 2 speed, its let u use the stock nitro pinions, they are cheep and last along time

I love the design of the mount I only wonder about the lack of lower pinion options. I will be running a Neu-Castle 1520 1Y on Neu 4100 6s lipo. Will be getting more lipos when money permits. Do you guys believe that the 25t pinion will be low enough for adequate torque?? I just want monster poppin power. No real speed demon need apply. I have yet to buy the truggy and just weighing the options. I was going to use the motor in the Flux that I had on the way but the diameter with fins on this motor is going to pose a fitment problem that I did not anticipate. I will be doing a XL conversion on the flux and will do another build on this XXL if I decide to run this idea. But since this is the only "real" option as far as a mount goes I am prob game. I have always wanted to do a LST conversion ever since I saw the shock on this biotch....I know stupid but they are monster!!

I run a 1521 1y on 6s lipo, current gearing is 23/63, and that gives about 42mph with 6" tires. I plan to use the lst2 tires, which are 6.5" tall. With that gearing i will be around 45mph. I have tons of power and this thing is a blast to drive.

I have the tdr mount & single speed hub. Right now I have the stock spur (can't remember the size) and a 22t rcm pinion. I haven't run it like this yet, but it looks like it's possible (maybe only just). I believe the max spur size is 66t. So with 22/66 gearing you'll have plenty of power.

When I built my roller I bought a new afterschock tranny because it comes with the foc installed. I believe I got this tip from linc's LST conversion thread.

Stock 2nd gear spur size is 63. You may have enough adjustment to get the 22 working, I did not have one, and the 23 was very close so I figured 23 to be safe. If the 22 does work please let me know, always good to get test proven info! I am sure the 66/22 would work great as well.

I sure am glad lst conversions are getting popular. For a while I thought I was the only one who liked the truck!

drkdgglr 12.07.2009 11:34 AM

I'm not sure I'm going to run the 22t pinion. I installed it because I wanted to try my 80mm medusa in the XXL, and was afraid it would get too hot. I just bought some new 40 series wheels which are supposed to have a 5.5" diameter, so I won't be needing the small pinion.

Your thread did get me into the Losi MT. I started with the Muggy, but switched to the LST. It's a great truck, but it does need a lot of power to get it moving. Good thing about the XXL is that the XXL diffs have the losi hd cups.

here's a pic of the 22t pinion and the stock spur. looking at the pic, a 66t spur probably would be better:

Mesh looks pretty good from this angle...

I am up in the air with which I prefer, the lst or the muggy. The muggy sure does turn better, but the lst is just more fun with the locked center. The lst chassis is stronger than the stock muggy chassis, that is for sure. I have both so I guess I can choose for myself, right!

Desert Rc 12.07.2009 12:14 PM

Linc thankyou for your considerable help as always. I am going to get the xxl lst2 just so I can test the durability comparable to the flux. So two questions
1. when you speak of locked center you mean in the single gear?? Not locked out reverse right??
2. Im afraid to ask but what is FOC in the tranny??
