New brushless e-revo owner
I recently made the plunge and picked up a brushless e-revo. my first run was disastrous. less than 2 minutes in I hooked one of the rear wheels on a sign post and broke a lower suspension arm, the bulkhead it was attached to, the rear skid plate and bent the aluminum plate that holds the back together. a quick trip to the hobby shop and 3 hours of maintenance later and i'm good to go.
Second run I took it out someplace with a little more space. I had a blast with it. but after the run i noticed one of my front wheels is wobbling, i think i ran into a tree at some point. at first glance nothing looks broken. what should i look for that might be causing this? |
Welcome to RCM. Gotta watch out for them thar trees. What kind of hubs you using on it? The 14mm or 17mm? Could be a few things like just the loose nut behind the wheel. JK
Something could be loose, check the pivot ball retainers. If it 14mm hex it could be a bent pin. Axles shaft could of gotten bent. Swap the tire with the one behind it and see if the wobble follows the tire or stays on that side. That will help you figure out what the cuase is. If lucks on you side maybe the wobble will be gone after you swap the tires. |
WELCOME!! to the best forum on earth! stay here and you are on a fast track away from noob country  :yipi:
i hope to god that you are not running the traxxas NIMH's that come with the truck!! if so.....STOP!! you will learn a lot from this forum, check out the castle creations section for info on the ESC and it's likes/dislikes. for the revo durability...i'd recomend at the very least the RPM true track system. (avaliable at towerhobbies.com or amainhobbies.com) the wobble might just be a de-glued tyre. |
I ventured out of noob country several years ago but have since wandered back in. i was doing RC monster trucks about 10 years ago but got out of it when i moved and packed up my trucks. i figured the e-revo would be a good truck to get back in the game with.
what's wrong with the packs that come with the truck? are they just crap or will they damage the speed controller or something? I'll definetly check out the castle creation section. someone else recomended the RPM true track parts as well, i'll grab a set next time i break a suspension arm. As for the wobble i'll probably not have time to tear apart that end of the truck until the weekend. I am using the stock hubs, every thing on it is stock. i like to give things a fair shake out of the box before i start throwing money at it. i'll let you guys know what i find after i get it apart. thanks, |
The NiMH packs that come with the brushless E-Revo simply can't supply enough current to the Mamba Monster. There's a whole slew of issues brought on by using incapable batteries, check the Castle Creations section for more info. I would suggest 5000mah 20C lipos at the very least, 30-40C even better.
The only reason Traxxas includes those NiMH packs is because many people want to buy the whole "all-in-one-box" setup and be ready to drive, and they don't want to add on the sticker shock pricing of including a decent set of lipos and charger. Plus, too many noobs would blow themselves up. |
ah crap i don't think my charger handles LiPo batteries. stupid hobby shop selling me chargers that only handle NiMH and NiCad!
what is the C rating on the LiPo batteries? |
C = discharge rating, its a multiple of the mah rating.
Have a read of my tutorials page, very informative: http://robotwars.00server.com/tutorials.html :intello: |
