You guys ever hear of a .btw file?
I am working on a Banner Vision system and it came with a cd that I suppose is the manual and wiring diagram since the setup instructions are a little lacking on what they are (24V,5V or what). The CD has one file that is a .btw, and I can't figure out how to open it (and the sales guy is no help either).

I did find that but it didn't mean anything to me. I thought it meant that there is a corrupt file, but it's on the disk and it reads the same in 5 of our computers. I can open it in notepad but it just says segull software and the rest is garbled? Sorry when it comes to computer stuff I am behind the power curve.

OK so I figured it out (still don't know what I can do with it) its a printer driver for some reason. Maybe the Banner guy will call me back.

Open it with Notepad (or any pure text editor). The contents will be either plain text, or a bunch of garbage symbols (or a mix of garbage and readable text). If it's garbage, it's at least partially a binary file used within an application of some kind. If it's all plain text, it could be the file holding settings, or just some kind of help/text file.

I'd bet it's for printing bar codes

Brian,
It is garbled but there is some plain text at the top. It may also read barcodes as well, as far as a print function I don't think it does, then again there is another plug that is not mentioned in the operations manual or the installation manual. The Banner guy didn't have a clue and was going to call so I am still waiting to hear. Jeff |
I just looked up the BTW file extension and it says that it is a label used with the BarTender program. It also says it can contain text, graphics, etc, so it makes sense that you could read part of it (the text part), but the embedded graphics would appear as gibberish.
This is a lot like the older MS Word files (prior to "docx" where they are now compressed XML files) where the you could see the text, but all the formatting and any embeds would appear as gibberish. |
I already connected it to the PLC I am using and got it set up. I am not reading any barcodes or printing so I guess we don't need it. Thanks for the help!

nope I've never heard of a "by the way file"

It must stand for By The Way here is this file that we aren't going to give you any information on, so go crazy trying to figure out how to use it!
