X-Brace Motor Mount Flex?
A guy at the LHS today pointed something out today. The X-Brace motor mount seems to have a lot of fex in it. Is there anything out there that helps this? Maybe some kind of rear brace or something?
|
The flex doesn't seem to bother it when the motors are mounted low to the side. I have seen some users mount the single brushless motor in the center top position and always was concerned with the motor flexing away from the spur gear and stripping it. The motor mount can be braced with turnbuckles if it becomes an issue.

I have my motor directly on the top.
What do you mean by using turnbuckles?? how does that work (any images?)? |
I am currently unable to upload pictures from my camera, but I will try to explain.
If you take a rod end (shock or turnbuckle) and attach it to the motor mount with a screw (screw through the motor mount into the turnbuckle), then repeat this with another one in the rear shock tower. Now, you will have two rod ends that can be easily connected with a turnbuckle (screw through fixed rod end into turnbuckle rod end on either side). |
The mount was originally designed to lower the cg of the motors. I still think the best set-up (even for a single) is as low as you can. The center will work, but in this location, you're putting all the weight furthest from the support points.
Good jod on explaining the rod idea Mike :L: I know we have a few guys on this site that are running large single motors on center - it would be good to get their input here. Thanks |
I have experimented with every position on the motor mount and havent seen any flex at all with my heavy HVMaxx motor (twice the weight of a normal motors)

i just noticed you can run a triple BL with this motor mount!
|
Yeah but imagine how much stress and flex is going to be on the motor mount. Although it would be cool to see it done:D

Get yourself checked out, supermaxx. You are clearly INSANE to even consider a tri-brushless set-up!

i wouldn't know where to put 96 NIMH cells on a gmaxx chassis:p
|
So are we saying to put it on one side or the other? Would this upset the balance of the truck?
|
This is saying a motor on each side AND on in the middle top position on th g-maxx motor mount - three motors!
|
No for one motor where should it be mounted. If its mounted on one side wouldn't the balance be messed up?
