I'm so getting Turnigy's for "Frostbyte" next spring, not paying for overpriced racing Lipos ever again.

Turnigy's definitely have a ton of punch and work very well... provided you get a pack where all cells are good. When they work, they work very good though. I'd be willing to pay an extra few $$$ to have cell matching done though.

i just got my 4 30c 5200mah hardcase turnigy packs today for my flux. now, i just need to get some dean's plugs to go on them. these charts make me feel even better about them now. i can't wait to run them. these packs have 8awg wires coming out of them and getting dean's plugs on them is going to be one heck of a challenge. the wires are HUGE! they must be 8-10mm in diameter.

also, i managed to stuff my 4s 5000mah 20c turnigy pack in my flux today and after 10 minutes of standing backflips and speed runs geared at about 45mph, the battery was only slightly warm. not bad for 20c. it heated up just as much as my "28c+" 9000mah SMC packs. i'm guessing the SMCs are less than 20c or even 15c or the turnigy packs are underrated. either way, i like turnigy lipos:yipi:

I ordered a couple of 3s turnigy lipo's for the savage and between being ordered and the retarded christmas rush they only took 6 days to get here! 3 days after it left hong kong they were at my doorstep(missed the delivery dude, have to pick them up later today).

yes it sucks MEGA hard trying to solder the suckers!!
and it looks ugly too but it can be done :wink:

So far I've had good luck with the Turnigy's. mine perform really good in my revo and tc.

since deans are so small, surely putting huge wires on small deans you will be losing some power? because the lipo wont be able to transfer all its energy at once because it will be restricted by the deans? wouldnt bullet connecters (that it comes with) be better?


Also is there anywhere that will solder the deans on when you buy the lipo for you?

They are matched by resistance


I got a pair of the hardcases, 8ga wire is is easier then 10ga as you can hold onto the wire bare handed because it dissapates so much heat. need a high wattage iron to solder them, watch out, your going to need to tweak the wire exits on your battery boxes for the 8ga wire to exit

It sure seems that it's the Turnigy's that are real good. The Zippy's do alot worse. I always kinda figured they were all the same.

Seems like the Zippy Flightmax's do pretty well. Unless I am reading these graphs wrong....

Deans are fine for what we do, they can handle the current draw just fine- its only the extreme setups like very heavy/tall geared 1/8 trucks and bigger that call for something like bullet plugs.

As for soldering, just ditch the deans and go for something better like EC5 connectors or 5.5mm bullets; I sure as heck wouldnt pay an LHS or electrical store ~£10/hour to change over/ solder my battery connectors. Easy work around would be to solder on a short length of 12g wire to the end of the 8-10g wire ( butt joint ), allowing you to solder on the Deans much more easily.

if you solder on 12awg wire, arn't you limiting the current flow? i mean, it must come with 8awg for a reason, no?

i've got a pair of Neuenergy 5000mah lipos at the moment, and i did a poor job of soldering on the deans. The power I get from them is not as much as I should be getting, and i'm also getting 45 minutes of runtime whereas i should be getting around 20 minutes. i think its because due to my bad soldering, the current has been reduced.

So the package says... But when you get a brand new back where the voltage in one cell drops all by itself when just sitting there, it's hard to believe.

Soldering the 8GA wire to Deans is no big deal. I just tin the end and use my dremel to make a little flat spot so it makes better contact to the solder tab without using a ton of solder. No harder than 12GA IMO.
