Wife her broke leg and totally screwed up Xmas and holiday trip..
Haven't posted much as I've been rather busy. Last Sunday my wife fell while walking our dogs in the snow and broke her leg in two places. I was inside with our two kids. I didn't even know until I looked out the window and saw one of the dogs just standing by himself in the middle of a grassy area behind our house. I watched him for a bit, thinking that she let him off to play, as it snowed 20" the day before.
He just stood there and I didn't see her or the other dog, so I opened the blinds and saw her laying on the hillside. I opened the window to ask her what the hell she was doing laying in the snow. "I think I hurt my leg!"... oh sh1t.. So I had our 3 yr old and 1 yr old inside. So I blocked off all the trouble areas, and ran outside. The other dog was with her. Got the dogs in the house. She said she was trying to crawl back up the slope, but her leg hurt too much. She wanted me to move her, I did a bit, hurt a lot. So I said screw this and called an ambulance. They came, hauled her away (they fell a few times even) to the E-room. I gather up kids and stuff and so go meet her there. They take Xrays (hoping for a sprain at this point.) Fubar. Broken in two places. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y25...legbreak-1.jpg We were supposed to be going to Colorado in a few days for Xmas to see my family. Trip was for 2.5 weeks. My daughter was just born last year, so we didn't go then. Most of my fam has not met my daughter, and I haven't seen them in a while. Had all these plans as well, take kids to museum, Estes Park, snowshoeing, maybe some horseback riding, lots of fam parties, dinner w/ my bro and his wife, and a private trip to hot springs w/ wife..... Plus my cousin got knocked up by one of the CO Avalanche, so we were going to get some free tix and prolly a trip into the locker room w/ the lucky dad-to-be. Nope. No way. No plane rides. Wife was in hospital for 2 days. Luckily my parents got plane tix out here for cheap, so they were here in two days to help and stay for Xmas. Plus I had all the gifts out there already, so they hauled them all out here for our kids to have their gifts. This turned out very well. So all in all it was a good Xmas, kids got lots of stuff and we were able to put somethings together. Got a tree and all the decs out. Otherwise its been insanely busy. Not only do I have to watch both a 1 yo and 3yo mostly by myself, I have to help my wife do basic things and she is still in lots of pain. Plus we still have the dogs an our cat to take car of (I have to clean its nasty fraking cat box...its not my cat...yuk.) Managed to put on a nice holiday dinner w/ lots of help from my parents. This is the first decent sitdown I've had in 6 days and actually open my gifts. (Of course, my big gift, a bluray player, has handshaking issues with the receiver and doesn't work in HDMI [FU HDCP]..so I'm on RCM instead lol) Unfortunately, my wife was supposed to have a rod put into her leg, but got into the OR, and they removed the splint only to find nasty fracture blisters (google that one..) so they couldn't do the surgery. She has to go back next week when the swelling goes down, so she's not really healing now, leg is very fragile and painful, and will be in hospital again. So overall it was still a great holiday so far, but really crappy too. Great to be home w/ everyone and see kids enjoy Xmas, but will miss all my other family and the fun things we planned to do. Not at all to mention all the crap my wife is having to deal with. As busy as I am, she is equally idle, just stuck in the recliner w/ leg propped up and can't play with the kids, go outside or do anything. What a frak-up. Maybe we'll laugh later about it tho.. |
Wow what poor timing. Tell her to wait 'till after the big family holiday vacation trip thingy to mess up her leg next year... Are there salt restrictions in your town that allowed that ice to be there? I'd be happy it turned out as well (relatively) as it did. She could've hurt her back instead...ya know?

You seem to be in good spirits, considering all that has happened. Take a deep breathe, leg injury's take a while to heal. I snapped my humerus just below the shoulder and had to let it heal in just a sling(no cast), and that was hell. I can't imagine the pain your wife is feeling. No wah wee wah wah for a while!
Keep coming here for stress relief, I imagine it's really going to set in when your parents leave. And, if you find the time re-read your manuals for your receiver and blu-ray player. It's usually some dumb obscure never used setting keeping you from visual ecstasy. Best of luck with everything. Maybe you can see naked avalanche players next year:lol: |
@ WN?: Its the sideyard of my house, so no restrictions. Silly girl thought it was a good idea to run in boots along a steep slope in snowy icy weather w/ two big dogs who really needed to take a piss. She slipped on ice under the snow, toe caught funny, she heard a crack and went down. Mother Nature pwnage.

Looks like its just a widespread incompatibility between the Samsung BD and Onkyo reciever. Looked all about, Dl'd new firmware... searched on AVSforum and lots of threads w/ these probs and no fixes.. :( Sucks as its the only one that streams netflix, Utube and Pandora. Oh wells. Have to decide what I'm going to do. Gonna take it back, but not sure what to get instead. Maybe something RC or powertools instead ;) Lastly, its more than possible he'll get traded next year. So I'll miss seeing my cousin and all the pro hockey wangs entirely. Def no waka waka for a while. Said 8 weeks recovery at a min. |
Sucks... I too got the Samsung BD player, the 1600 or something...
Freaking awesome for netflix, etc.... Sorry to hear about the BD player.. so sad... Oh, and your wife. |

Sorry to hear about the "griswalds" type christmas however it always could have been worse! In a few months or maybe next year you will look back on this and laugh! |
oh man... no waka waka?.. lawd.. i'd be getting the BluRay workin atleast u can watch "man movies" in HiDef!!.. hope everything works out for the better man!..
|
lol... I'll get by. Her legs are broken, but not the hands ;)
I too have the Samsung 1590. Its ok, but there is no way the HDMI will work, so I don't think it will upscale. Plus I really picked it for the Pandora and Netflix streaming. However it seems a bit buggy and freezes up alot. I think I am just going to take it back and get a Roku player for online streaming. I don't care all that much about the BD, plus I found out Netflix charges more for the BD movies (they didn't for hddvds :( .) |
Sorry to hear about the bad break.... The folks to the rescue is priceless. You are a lucky man. Most men don't get the chance to learn first hand what a tough job thier spouse has. Something that should make a stonger union between you. Don't forget to let her know you are damn glad you were not born a women. One reason is the thankless jobs they have. Two If you think passing a kidney stone is bad, think what pushing a bowling ball out you would feel. Thirdly, if you were born a women there would then be a whore in the family. Men are born whores but what are we called? Players, now that doesn't even sound remotely as bad as whore does. We have it easy don't we? A little humor for the stress.
I will put in a good word for your wife the next time I speak with the man upstairs. Best wishes and remember the crockpot can be you best friend. |
