powerdome charging
 

well my parents got me one of these for christmas as a powersupply at my local track... i love it but im worried about charging it.
its a lead acid battery and its supposed to take 36 hours to charge.. im just worried as i wanna always have it topped off so i dont know how long to leave it charging...

it has a voltmeter built in which will tell me the voltage but when should i stop it? it goes all the way up to 15v even tho the battery is a 12v?

i just dont want to damage the battery by charging it to long

For longevity you have the right idea, always keep it topped off. I would imagine fully charged you could see 13.8v or more, once you have it fully charged take note of the voltage and that will be your goal. At the end of the charge it should feel luke warm, if it starts to get hot you are overcharging it.

A small "smart" trickle charger would be ideal for keeping this going for you, as they shut off when charged and turn on when the voltage sags.

i cant really feel the actual battery as it is enclosed.. it came with a wallwart charger... is there a way to check if it is a "smart" charger?

You'll feel heat through the case if it's getting hot.

You'll have to check the instructions on the charger. Does it say to unplug it after the 36 hours? Then it's not. If you can keep it plugged in it is.

Does your r/c charger have an sla option?

I haven't seen a booster box yet that has any sort of smart charging. Most just have a walwart that is rated for about 12-14V and usually an amp or less and you just charge them by time. Even a 12V walwart will eventualy get to about 13.5V when the load drops enough. You could use the charger it came with to charge it then switch to one of these
