Hyper 10 sc motor/esc help
just got the hyper 10 SC and for now I just put in my CC 4600kv and sidewinder ESC, I know the ESC is going to be to light of a ESC and looking for the best set up, Tenkin said there pro esc and 6.5T motor would work but some think it will get a bit hot unless I drop to a 9T pinion (stock set up is 42 spur and a 11T mod 1 pinion) does anyone make a mod 1 9T pinion with a 3mm bore to fit a 1/10 scale motor ? someone else said to run the novak HV6.5 (1/8 scale motor) in it, just seems like everyone is running all kinds of set ups

I am using this combo:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXXKA8&P=ML I have only lightly bashed with it once, it should see some track time this Wednesday though, which is what I got it for. The motor and ESC were both barely warm if that, but again, it was just a light run and I never got a chance to test out full speed. The motor is 5000kv, but the truck is so light especially with a Lipo, it should be okay, but I will know more on Wednesday. |
One of the prefered motors of many CRT.5 owners ( essentially the same truck) has been a 50mm Medusa. However Medusa is out of business but.... Neu is picking up their product line. If you can find a used Medusa they are great motors, a 36-50-4800 is a great motor on 2s and if you plan to run 3s the 36-50-3300 would be ideal. Neu makes some incredible motors but you will pay for them as well. I have run a Novak HV4.5 in my CRT.5 as well and it did incrediblly well.

I also can vouch for the Medusa Motor. Using the 36-50-3300 on 3s running on a MMPro, everything stays nice and cool. Originally, I had the MM and 4600 motor and couldn't gear it low enough to get good temps. Even then, top speed was horrible. With the Medusa, I can gear for at least 30mph with no issues whatsoever.

had one in my 1/8 buggy bad design the end bell fell off and boom !!!

Yeah, that can happen. A little scuffing of the endcap and adding some JBWeld cures this though. Yeah, you shouldn't have to mod a new item, but it is worth it in this case.

Ran the crap out of my 10sc yesterday. It was cold and misty, racing was canceled, it was a bad night. Suddenly, the mist stops, they brought out the night lights and we all ran for a few hours. I was one of two 10sc's on the track. I was running the Novak Havoc 3S/Ballistic 8.5 System I mentioned above and the other guy was running a CC Sidewinder and some ezrun or whatever motor. Both of us were using 2S, however, he did try 3S a few times.
First off, this truck moves!! The stock tires, the stock gearing, everything is good out of the box. The truck can make tight turns as well and doesn't seem to have too much of a problem with traction rolling. Jumping is great until you try to hit an 1/8th scale buggy style triple. Flight correction is much better than a 2WD SC but nowhere near as good as a 1/8 buggy. The truck liked to nose dive and pegging the throttle could sometimes correct it, but not always. Plus, if you are flying nose up and hit the brakes, the truck will lawn dart. This concern is minor and only relates to huge jumps. As far as the Havoc system, no matter how hard I ran, the motor and speed controller were never above 80F. It was around 50F outside which obviously helped, but I think I have room to go up a few teeth on the pinion. Don't really need to, but I may try it. We both broke some parts though. Since we both nose dived multiple times on the triple, our bumpers were tested thoroughly. I cracked two of the upper supports for the bumper, he broke one completely in two. Also, the bumper likes to find its way behind the body and can cause some tearing if you don't pop it back. I will be trimming mine before next race day. |
looks like I'm going with the novak HV6.5 motor and the CC MMP esc just have to wait for the esc to get in stock it's back ordered everywhere
