Replacing motor wires on a Neu

Hello !

Is it possible to change motor wires on a Neu 1515 DIY ?
I got a chance to by this motor for about USD 50 and if I can change the wires it might be a good deal...

no you cant, they are part of the windings

miniGranis 01.09.2010 08:58 AM

Aha, I see.
Any idea on what Neu would charge to fix it ?

half of the motors initial price. but dont expect to see your motor for about 2 months

its not worth it, to buy and get it fixed

is the wire broken or is it just exposed, u could remove the cover and re shrink it from what i can see but cant tell if its broken or not

Looks to me like the shrink wrap is slip exposing the wire. Not sure though.

if its not broken i would buy it and just re shrink the exposed wire and check the bearings, that looks like sand

Indeed. Remove the old shrink, put some new glue lined stuff on & make sure it goes into the motor a little bit. Then cover those holes to prevent the motor and bearings filling up with sand- thats not good for the motor if the bearing fails, could cause the rotor to flail around inside the can, or even jam up solid..

The wires look pretty black inside the can I suspect shorted

agreed

the motor probably has a bad stator. Anyway, NEU will charge $80 for the fix, and they will replace the bearings as well. I just had something like to done. So, like the other post said, its not worth it to buy and get it fix.

Pardon me for saying, who's bright idea was it to run that motor so exposed to the elements without sealing it ? Not to dam smart :whip::whip:

If he buys it for 50 and spends 80 fixing it, he just got a 260 dollar motor for 130. Half price ain't a bad deal and worth it in my opinion. If it were me I would try to get the price down a little more. Maybe you can snag it for 30 then it's really worth it.

you can always try to do what neil said just make sure the wires are not touching any other metal surface on the can an shrink wrap it then if all else fails sent it to get fixed
