Hobbycity deans?
 

What happened to them? I don't see them on their store anymore.....:gasp:

They sent me a bunch a couple orders ago and I tried them and gave a the rest away. It was 50/50 if they were worth a dam. Some had failures immediately after soldering ? JUNK, your not missing anything.

I'v had good luck with the HC traxxas plugs...

just file and angle on the end so they go together easyer

Deans put a stop to them exporting them to the US, so they didn't have much reason to carry them.

I am divided on this. On one hand, the HXT connectors were similar, but not exactly like Deans. Deans had shortcomings (poor grip area) and HXT addressed it. But then again, Deans should get off their butt and design a better connector to meet today's needs.

For giggles, I went to the patent office to see when the Deans patent expires, but after reading about 2 paragraphs of long and borrrrriiiing text, my eyes glazed over and lost interest. Wow, I wouldn't have thought something as simple as a basic connector would require so many words!

Yup, 5mm. They are deisel big, "should" be better than the Deans even though I've never had a problem w/them. I wanted them for Hopefully better effciency. Gonna try them on one of my heavier 5s set ups and see how they work.

I am kinda bummed about the hc deans as well. Never had a problem with them, cheap, and the grip was super handy. It kinda irks me that deans went through the trouble to get them stopped, which they have every right to, but won't at least improve theirs for the price. I have kinda been kicking around swapping to the traxxas style myself. To me bullet style just don't seem to hold up as long till they become loose, even from just swapping motors around and such.

I've had problems with real Dean's as well as the knockoffs. I didn't get the knockoffs from HC but I got about the same support I got from Deans. I sent an email to them (Deans) asking about getting larger quantities where to get them and if there was anything larger (10ga on them is way too big) and got an automated message saying to call them. I tried all their emails and got the same thing. I didn't have time to call and I wasn't thinking about it when they were open so I never called. Since they can't even respond to an email why should I support them.

Hobby City "EC5" 5mm bullet plugs
 

This evening I got a few solderd on, I must say, they are very robust plugs !
My only complant is if you fill the bullet a little much it'll over flow onto the out side of the bullet and it must be removed befor installing into plug, It's a tight fit without the solder on the exterior. The plugs go together smoothly and tight, there grip they have on each other is authoritive and requires some "umph" to seperate. Now the question is how will they last with repeated installs and removals, time will tell. At $1.29 for the male & female plugs it's a bargin in my book.

those are going on my next order. I use deans on my 10th scale stuff or 4mm plugs depending on my battery (prefer the ones with sockets so can just use the 4mm plugs).

My 8th scale gets ec5's though. The losi ones are $8 so I will be trying out the hobbycity ones.

I work at a Hobby Shop and our cost on Losi plugs is still more than double of the HC plugs and I see NO DIFFERENCE.
