1/10th Scale SC 4wd vs. 1/8th Scale Buggies
Due to the retarded Texas weather we finally had our first official club race last night with the new 4wd SC trucks. It consisted of three Ofna's 10SCs and four Slashes. Both types of trucks did really well, however the traction rolling was killing us. The track was nice and sticky from the mist in the air which gave a combination of high traction and mud. I took 2nd in the A main, a 2nd to last lap traction roll cost me a chance for first place. Damn Slash took first, if we had one more lap I would have had him (maybe).
And the point of my post now, I don't quite see this "race with the 1/8 scale buggies, watch them cower in fear, blah blah blah" stuff. I raced my RC8e in a separate class last night and there is NO WAY you can compare the two. The buggies had consistently 10 second faster lap times and are much tighter in every way. That doesn't mean they are more fun than the SC 4wd's by any means, but I don't see these two racing together anytime soon. Anyone else have a similar or different point of view? |
Well 1/8 scale buggies have a lower CG and a wider/longer wheelbase. Of course they are going to handle tons better than a 1/10 truck. I wonder who came up with that ""race with the 1/8 scale buggies, watch them cower in fear, blah blah blah" stuff".

From what I've seen, a typical 8th scale buggy has about the same wheelbase as a Slash - enough so that a Slash body will fit perfectly on a buggy. A buggy is probably more durable (and heavier), but after seeing how my Slash handles vs my MBX5/Slash hybrid handles, I'll stick with the MBX5 any day.

10 seconds per lap, that's a LOT.
Do what Powah and others have done here and convert an 1/8th buggy to SC with slash boddy/bumpers and PWN them all! |
As a point of order, their width is about .25" wider and they are about the same wheelbase. And I can't imagine comparing with the Jammin/Ofna offerings that the CG is lower in a buggy (Slash, yeah cuz of its design). Someone here posted putting a 1/10th scale SC lid on his buggy and it fit nearly perfect. I've seen one or two posted same elsewhere.
I suppose it comes down to what is powering them too; are the 4x4 running 10th scale 2s/3s motor/bat combo? Or are they running the 8th scale 4/5s motor/bat combo? I've been looking into it myself to possibly get a Jammin or Ofna 4x4 SC instead of a buggy, but I've been hedging simply to see what Associated/Losi/HPI might come out with. Quote:

The new SC 4wd trucks are nothing more then lighter weight 1/8th buggies.
SC10 Length: 21.6" (550mm) Width: 11.5" (293mm) Track: 9.6" (245mm) Wheelbase: 12.9" (327mm Slash Length: 22.36" (568mm) Width: 11.65" (296mm) Height: 8.42" (214mm) Front and Rear Track: 11.65" Wheelbase: 13.2" (335mm) The new Jammin SCRT10 still has the nitro dirt guards on for crying out loud... http://www.jamminproducts.com/SCRT10...RT10TopLrg.jpg Most the guys around here are going with the MMM-2200KV combo on 4S.....once again buggy. The final kicker...here is the Losi 2.0 buggy which is one of the largest buggy's and longest wheelbases... Type:Competition Buggy Race Roller Length:19.56 in (497mm) Width:12.13 in (308mm) Wheelbase:12.71 - 12.87 in (323 - 327mm) Has a shorter wheelbase, shorter chassis, and the width is the same once you swap SCT wheels in, or the SCT's swap 17mm hexes and buggy tires on. |
Here is an RC8 converted......looks the same as the JAmmin....lol

You'd need to swap out the SC8, i.e. RC8T, chassis for the RC8 buggy at least. Otherwise the SC8 uses most of the buggy's suspension.
