RC8 spur gear question

my friend is building a high speed RC8, and i know almost nothing about the buggy. are there any other spurs that can be used on this buggy? i seem to remember someone custom fitting a 36t on the center diff, but i can't remember what company made the spur.

also, does anyone know of a place besides kershaw designs that makes mod
5mm pinions larger than 26T?

any help is greatly, greatly appreciated.

Try Stock Drive Products. They have many gears with 5mm bores.

The spur gear in a RC8 is a problem. Its difficult to find a custom size. I was lucky in my OFNA GTP. It has a spool (no dif) its just a 8mm shaft. So all I had to do was find a spur gear with a 8mm bore to fit. I wonder if you would be able to fit a OFNA spool on an RC8 so it would be easier to get a small gear on there.

thanks for the suggestion. i'm not sure how to put an order together there.i guess i could just bypass the spur and maybe get a large pinion, but do they make mod 1 gears?

I wouldn't deal with Kershaw. here is the store for sdi, just click metric, then gears, spur metal. They have mod1 with 5mm bore. Not sure how many teeth you want.

looks good to me. What material is the spur gear? I heard the alum pinions there weren't the best. To me they should be fine with plastic spur. Also I think the shipping is steep.

they make them in aluminum alloy or stainless steel. should i go stainless steel?

Wouldn't it be possible to use the 13/43 diff gears from the TTR S3 to get longer gearing? This should help with top speed.

they make 43t gears for it already. i was looking to instead jack the pinion size up considerably...like running a 44t spur or 43/30 or 36t pinion.. i think i'm gonna try this SDPI store and buy a few stainless steel gears and one aluminum just to see how they are. i've always wanted to gear my 8ight that high too, so my friend and i can burn up our esc's together. LOL!.

kyosho 44T plastic spur fits with slight dremeling to the screw hole line them up better

I thought the RC8 was using 10/43 diff gears. So using 13/43 from the S3 would make you some 30% faster.
BTW, you need to change both bevel gears, because the lateral position of the 43T gear changes.
