Brushless and plastic don't mix
4 Attachment(s)
Taking advantage of a great day out, I took my converted super Nitro RS4 out for a spin and discovered something anew. Brushless power and plastic pulleys don't mix. Running 16V through a Medusa 36-60 3100kv motor, it did not take long to wear the rear drive belt smooth and the rear pulley toothless. But before that ill-fated happening the speed was incredible. Thanks to some 1/8th scale adaptors I picked up from Wolfpack Radicals, I can run Proceed and Serpent type foams. Now all I have to do is install some alloy pulleys and I will be in business. Here is the car, what's left of the pulley, and the metal ones that will be going in. I also took my TA-04R out for a spin as well. Powered by a Mamba 7700 on 3 cells...it is for lack of a better description....FAST AS :surprised::surprised: I got to get a fan on the controller though. It got a little hot. The foams are not going to last long on this one, but it is FAST :gasp:.

Either way thats a Real cool car.How fast is it?
|
Both cars look good to me. The medusa can prob. be geared high for speed also while remaning alot cooler than the castle.

How fast?
I don't have a means of measuring but they are both just plain fast. The wider foams give them the control they need to handle the power.

After further research, the metal pulleys are no longer available. It looks like I will be stocking up on the pulleys. O well, I have to go fast.

You need a Wolfpack conversion, that was the real deal in the old days... . They made gears for the 100 mph Super Nitro as well.
Would you be interested in a Super Nitro with a ton of upgrades, titanium chassis etc.? My friend has one lying around which he might sell (or not). |
I have picked up some wheel adaptors and a lot of good advice from Wolfgang. No gears though, I have checked already.

Just when I gave up hope....

I found these. They are the metal version of pulleys that met their demise the other day. Hopefully thy should arrive around about the same time as the Kevlar belts coming. This time I will make sure the tension is set correctly.

sweet. with the internet if an r/c part was made you can usually find it. I'm glad you found the pulley. Shoot some video, that thing has got to fly!! Hopefully the new belts work out.

Man you and me both. It flies...I just want it to do it all the time.

Brushless and metal mix well
I got the metal pulleys in and modified the motor mount to take a 20t pinion. The bench test went better than expected. I shot a video of the test. I am currently waiting on a dry day to get it out considering we are digging out of the worst winter season in DC history. 54+ inches in 2 weeks.
