SPortwerks Mayhem conversion?
 
I'd like to know some opinions on the Sportwerks Mayhem Buggy for a conversion?

I can get one used locally for dirt cheap, everything except the radio. And I could probably get rid of the motor for most of the cost of the buggy. What kind of difficulty do you think it'll be to convert? Also, it has a metal spur. If you guys could look at it and chime in, I'd highly appreciate it.

It does look like it wont be hard to convert. My main concern would be the steel spur, but that could easily be modified to take a plastic. The batteries would be easy to mount, just looked at the pics again:p

I'm looking over what he told me comes with it and I should easily be able to sell the motor and pipe for $150-200, and being that I'll only pay an astounding $150 for it, I should be good to go. Probably ebay the other stuff off it too. And if I'm not mistaken it might be the Pro version also.

I have a 9L, do you think I could use it for a while?

That would be perfect! You dont wanna run over 12 cells in a buggy, 14 MAX, than they just feel sluggish , but theres always lipo:)

Converting a buggy isn't too hard at all, just depends how much work you want to put into it. I cheaped out on my Ofna 9.5 conversion the first time around and only used a hacked up Maxx motor plate and Associated RC10 battery cups........the motor mount flexed and nuked spurs like nothing, and the battery cups didn't sit flat on the chassis and killed battery bars. I've since made a new one out of 1/4" alum. that will never flex and added Kyosho Twin Force battery trays (part number MA109) to keep the cells in much better.

I run a Lehner 2800xl motor in mine, it's a little faster than the 9L and I keep a fan on it to make sure the temps stay cool, but it sure makes that car boogie!

As has been said, it really isn't that hard. For the spur gear, Mike could probably make an adapter that would allow the use of the Ofna plastic spur. I've also heard that the Kyosho plastic spur gear for the Landmax will fit onto the Ofna (non-Ultra/MBX) diffs.

If you're like me, you could go all out and make a completely new chassis, as well as a custom center diff mount (I'm using a custom slipper clutch right now, though). Cold Fusion makes some 1/4" thick aluminum motor mounts that bolt to the chassis, and this would be the easiest strong way to get the motor mounted.

I was thinking of using something like 1" wide piece of angle iron for a motor mount and the Twin Force Cups for the batts also. Cold Fusion's mount sounds better though.
If I can man up to it, I'll run lipo, 4s probably. Also, what kid of gearing am I looking at? Its got a 46T spur on it. I wonder how much Mike could make an adaptor for?

I don't know the diff ratio, but since it is probably pretty similar to other buggies on the market, I think a 12t pinion should do.
