savage21 brushless conversion
 
hi guys need your help yet again ,,:lol: converting this nitro savage 21 to brushless have most things sorted thanks to this forum confused on gearing i have the stock two speed transmission lockd in second gear . with a 47 tooth spur gear mod1 , also have a mod1 13 tooth pinion . not sure if this is correct ???????? need your input will be running 4s and 6 s best gearing options plz guys .. some have said go to a 17 tooth pinion ??? small pic of this savage thanks . http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/p...Picture102.jpg http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/p...Picture103.jpg http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/p...Picture101.jpg :oops:

Looks good so far. What ESC and motor are you using? Also what motor mount are you using? I just converted a Savage X without a transmission, So I'm not much help on gearing. Maybe the masters Finnster or Jthiessen will chime in on gearing. Will you be using Flux Lipo trays?

the brushless system is the 150 amp exrun combo i have two of these systems and find them great the kitt is from speed passion motor mount and batt trays to be honest not worth the money , your better of with r/c monsters motor mount thanks

If you tell us the motor kv we can tell you what gearing to use...

A 13 tooth pinion puts you at 42mph on 6s and 28mph on 4s. That sounds perfect to me as a starting point. Temperarure of the electrical components is what you need to know to determine ideal gearing for any brushless setup.

Gearing a monster truck for about 40mph is an excellent starting point for determining proper gearing.

I got the mph figures by using BrianG's speed calculator. He is a moderator here at RCM and has developed an invaluable tool for the r/c hobbyist. It is an easy to use tool with drop down menus for inputting your parameters. It is found in a sticky titled "speed calculator" in the brushless section.

Using it you will never have to wonder about gearing again, here's a link to it:
