Grossi Liquid cooled Nitro engine

Pretty neat.... for a nitro engine.

badass! wonder if there are any significant power gains?--josh

Would be ideal for something that runs at low speeds a lot (rock crawler, for example) as you could use a fan and have active cooling.

I wonder who's going to be the first DA to get that. If anyone does gt, post it here .

honestly though, even if you love brushless,an actual radiator setup and a water cooled engine is pretty slick, even if it isnt faster. and it would definately make a great scale hot rod power plant! a fornt engine rod with an actual radiator behind the nose cowling would look sooooo cool --josh

That's exactly what I was thinking. Nothing like being at the track, pulling your car in and pulling off the body to see a radiator and true front engine, rear wheel drive machine.

I definitely would not use it for off road though, and I'd be sure to get some sort of telemetry setup to monitor the temperatures, or else if your water pump burnt out your motor would be toast.

Interesting note about this engine. It doesn't have the traditional style of intake port on the crank. Notice in the cutaway view the slot in the top of the crank and in the little disc next to it. I'm guessing this and the intake+ exhaust port configuration in the sleeve was dictated by the fact the water jacket completely circles the cylinder sleeve. I always wanted a setup like this, but it would have to be a .28 or bigger for me to consider it.

As far as I can tell it's fairly similar to a 1:1 car setup, and I don't know how they intend to keep air out of the system in the event of a rollover. Anybody that has fixed an airlocked cooling system knows how much of a pain it is.

Also, properly tuned nitros don't overheat. The tune of the engine will still determine operating temperatures.

But that 'lil radiator looks soooooo cool:intello:

While tune plays about the largest role in a nitro engines temperature, so does the amount of airflow and the load placed on the engine. Water cooling would keep temps more consistant and allow tuning to be based solely on power and lubrication. Plus it just looks damn cool

If you want to see more of the rotating valve crank, separate bearing oiling system, and other ideas these guys have come up with check them out at www.grossiengines.com

wow, thanks for the link. They sure have alot going on in a tiny block. I suppose reed induction will be next!

i dont like radiators go figure
air cooled FTW!

Hello Mum!

Looks to me like more un-necesary complication. Just someting else to leak on that nitro motor. As if air and fuel leaks werent enough. now coolant leaks are added to the mix. Yea!! Makes me want to go back to running nitro again.

Cool novelty, but it wont change anything in the nitro world long term. If there is anything we have learned in this hovbby its that simpler is better 99 times out of 100.

Actually that thing kinda reminds me to that goofy liquid cooled Brushless motor that our friends over at FineDesign made a couple years ago. We all know how well that did.
