My first buggy kit....Its a Ve8.
Hi guys,
Well I recently decided to get back in the hobby. I picked up a Hot Bodies Ve8 a few weeks ago @TH for a pretty good price. This is my first buggy. This also my first kit build. Opened the box and everything seemed pretty straight forward on the build until while putting the rear diff together I stripped the screws :gasp: This sucks!! Well I have to order screws. I think Im going to get the aluminum skids. Anyone here have experience with them? They seem like a worthwhile investment. I still havent decided what motor esc I want to run. I have a new Novak 5.5HV pro system that I picked up cuz the price was right. I also have a MMM 2200 laying around but I think Im going to be running this on 4s due to the smaller battery tray. I think I may give the Novak a try. Anyone have any gearing suggestions? |
First, welcome! This is your friend for gearing questions http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/index.html Try to keep your RPM around 35k...that is what most of us shoot for
Motors....a Tekin 2000, 2200kv would be great on 4s...the 2000kv would be the most efficient...or the 2200kv system you have would work as well. You could gear it high for speed runs with out breaking a sweat. |
Thanks for the tips and gearing link Magman. I have been reading about the Tekin systems. They seem to be really good. I really like my MMM2200kv in my ERevo and Emaxx. I see some users use the MMM2650. hmmm well guess I'll have to experiment to see what I like best.

Experimentation is great...however, it isn't on your walott:whistle: I have done just that the last 3 yrs...and I am a lot less wealthy because of it. Just the nature of our hobby. Best of luck

Another option is a mmpro with a Tekin motor. The mmpro gives the user the option of sensored/sensorless

The aluminum skid plates are a must IMO.

I've run the MMM 2200 combo for a year in my 8ight conversion... it's perfect.. gear it for 38-40 and it's dead on. PS I only run 4s lipo as that is all that is allowed in big races for the most part. Also note the Hyperion g3 cx packs are just about the best lipo I've found that will fit that little battery tray. Great quality.

I need a good metal gear servo. I'll be using it with a model 224 TH 2.4ghz 2 channel spread spektrum radio for now. Any advice on good servo for the Ve8 ?
|
Hitec and JR servo's have always done good by me... I would get something at least ~200oz@ 6v and around .15sec or faster @6v. Quite a few choices, just depends on your budget.

My Aluminum Skids and screws came in today. Still waiting on my hitec servo, tires and paint. I sure wish the hobby shops around here were better supplied when it comes to RC stuff. I'll get some pics of my build up as soon as I remember where my camera is.

I love my LHS, I try using them as much as possible. They have tower gold pricing or something like that, plus they can pick up most of their orders from tower with a short drive no shipping involved, unless it is coming from their eastern distribution plant. I am a firm believer of buying local, if your LHS has decent people they may go out of their way to assist you, especially if their is a need of 1/8 scale parts for racing in the area. My LHS is based off a rock crawling website, but since we race a lot of electric 1/8 scale in the area they went out of their way to get a seller status with hyperion and other goodies for 1/8 brushless action.
