mmm up in smoke

1 Attachment(s)
i have had a mamba monster for about 6-7 months now i only have 1 setup run
on it (about 5 mins) it has been sitting on my shelf sins then becuase i
live in canada and the weather got to damp for my liking. i run 2x 8000mah
28c smc lipos with it and today i went to swap out my spektrum RX for a
telemetry RX after changing the rx i pluged in the castle link to check for
updates and updated the firmware to 1.22 after that i went to plug my batts
in and bind my RX and the esc went up in smoke and melted the the black wire
off the esc.

why did this happen i havent changed anything in the 2200kv combo sins the
setup run and now iam out of an esc?

Interesting..

When the esc went up in smoke, was it before or after turning it on with the switch (after connecting the lipos )? Any chance the batts were plugged in backwards (reversed polarity )? Wasnt possibly damp inside due to condensation?

I doubt the firmware update hd anything to do with it, and it updated fine without the bec causing the castlelink to heatup rapidly, so it kinda looks like its one of those random, meaningless failures that happen upon turning the esc on..

Castle should warrenty it for you I imagine, so it will just be a little bit longer before you get to drive your truck again.

polarity was fine and it smokes once i turned the switch on, iam itching to drive this truck it only has the 5 min setup run on it cant wait for the snow to melt, but now i maybe waiting longer

I had 2 go this way once on 6s and once on 5s with 1515 1y both times, first time it was just after i put a fresh battery in, second time esc stopped responding and i thought the switch had flopped on me so i slid it over and nothing, slid it back and it instantly started shooting flames and smoke. both times for no apparent reason, mine is now out of warranty after recent replacement and can only pray i do not lose another this way as money has been tight the way it is so it would have to sit.

agreed it could get expensive if this keeps happening. anyone know if your warrenty starts over once you get a replacment from castle?

if it dosent then maybe if i get warrenty ill just sell it and get another brand because it is my first castle product and i havent even really run the truck yet, not saying anything bad about castle product but just my 2 cents alot of ppl love there products just my bad luck i guess.

1 year -- not 90 days.

He is asking what the warranty on a replacement is. i was told 90 days on a replacement as mine was about out of warranty when it was replaced. i understand the 1 year is good from original purchase. i thought he was asking what the warranty of a replacement is if the original warranty is about expired.

Oh, that's correct - -sorry I misunderstood. 90 days for an advance warranty replacement. Those are usually reserved for things like DOA, shipping damage, etc.

Thanx!

No, from your description, it sounds to me like one of the FET drivers gave up the ghost. It's not a typical failure mode. We only see a handful that fail in that manner.
