Servo Savers
 

When I upgraded my steering servo to the Hitec 546MG, I went ahead and bought the Kimbrough Heavy Duty servo saver. Even though I don't race, the steering still feels really mushy to me.

Does anyone know of a better solution than this? I wish that the Maxx has a servo saver like my Evader ST, which incorporates it into the steering bellcrank. I think it's referred to as a cam-lock. Is there an aftermarket upgrade for the E-Maxx like this?

Supermaxx makes one that works awesome, but it isn't cheap. Proline used to make one, but recently discontinued it. The Proline was about half the cost of the Supermaxx one and worked quite well. You may be able to pick up one from e-bay or maybe even a hobby shop may have the pro-line in stock.

Thanks for the tip, Mike. I found some info on the Pro-Line kit, but it said that it was only for the T-Maxx. Do you know if it's possible to make it fit in the E-Maxx?

I've fitted a proline servo saver on my Emaxx ;) It work fine :)

I got the servo saver in today, and the Powerstrokes should be at the Post Office waiting for pickup!

I think I've got it figured out as to how everything goes together, except for one piece. There's a turnbuckle in the package, and I can't find a counterpart for it on my truck. Is this maybe something specific to the T-Maxx that I don't need?

If you follow the Pro-line instructions, the "saver" part is on the side opposite the steering servo. The "extra" turnbuckle is their method of reaching across the truck to this bellcrank (passes through center of the truck). I usually mount it on the servo side and use a short linkage like the stock setup.

I don't suppose that you'd have a copy of these instructions that you could scan and email to me, do you? Mine came without any kind of directions whatsoever.

I am pretty sure I don't have the instructions. If I do, they are buried somewhere. It is fairly easy to figure out, though.

There are two ways to install the unit: install it as pictured for the T-maxx, or you can swap the bellcranks and use your existing steering linkage. Which ever way you install it, you will have to cut off the standoffs on the chassis.

Well, I started to mount the servo saver and decided that since I was already having to disassemble the Maxx partially already, I would go ahead and fill the Powerstrokes and mount them at the same time. Six hours later, I think I've got everything installed and working properly.

The bearings that came as part of the steering servo kit make a huge difference, and the wheels will actually turn when sitting still on the carpet. Mike, I'm really glad you turned me on to this upgrade. I gotta tell you, though, I had to think long and hard before I cut out the standoffs.

As for the Powerstrokes, I was quite surprised at how much bigger they are than the stock shocks. VERY beefy! I can't wait to test it out tomorrow. They seem to be firmer than the stockers even with the dual rate springs, and the action is infinitely smoother.

Next stop -- chassis upgrades! :L:

Yeah, the proline servo saver is an excellent piece, as are the powerstrokes. You will see a nice performance/handling improvement when you run your truck. The chassis upgrades will improve these areas even more.
