Oh Lordy, who called it?

Was just watching TV and saw a news "informing" or whatever you call it on TV, article on paper, whatever.

Loma Linda in SoCal (I think), is starting to charge money for using 911.... I hope it doesn't spread around to other counties, cities, etc.

I THINK this is the right one..

Makes sense to me. If I'm in an emergency, even a $50 phone call doesn't matter, as long as the emergency is handled. Somebody has to pay for the services.

Also, idiots crowd 911 lines with non-emergency calls. I'm sure this is where they got the idea from.

rawfuls 02.27.2010 01:08 AM

That's true...

That was in the back of my head, but taxes go towards them, do they not? Forgive me for being retarded, I'm not on my tax paying stages yet..

Taxes do pay for it. That's a whole other discussion, taxes going to the right causes.

But the operator needs to be paid, whatever emergency personnel are dispatched have to be paid, the phones and call centers and ambulances and firetrucks have to be paid for.

Mostly though, i'm sure it's to deter people from calling because their cat is in a tree.

That really pisses me off when resources are wasted to get a cat out of a tree. Just leave it alone, it'll come down, just maybe not when it's owner wants it to.

What were we discussing?

You guys would be surprised how often 911 is "abused" ie...calling for a tooth ache or toe pain or faking being altered just to get a ride to a downtown hospital and then you see te same 19 year old punk walking out right as you just finished your PCR and are pulling put of the ER bay....true story...but the kid bought himself "2" missed 14ga IVs...lol...

zeropointbug 02.27.2010 02:15 AM

HAHA, yeah I remember that. Come on though Squee, give her a break, when you need your daily Mckey fix, NOTHING will get in your way.

shaunjohnson 02.27.2010 03:04 AM

good idea but then you have mobile phones...
no matter what a mobile will dial 911, even if keypad is locked. even withought credit on it.

I remember one time, while at school, my phone had pocket-dialed an emergency number, guess what number, yup 911..

Luckily I felt something vibrate ever so slightly (vibrates when you push touchscreen buttons), this is the enV touch, and I caught it right before it sent...

My friends phone did that a few years ago in the middle of class and he didn't know it. They called back and he ended up arguing with them for 10 minutes that it was an accident. Pissed the teacher of thoroughly.

I just saw a dumb criminal show where two punks were stealing from cars, and one of them pocket dialed 911.

They tracked down the phone owner, he rolled on his buddy, they both got charges. Dumb criminals

BP-Revo 02.27.2010 03:45 AM

$50 seems like a lot. Make it $5, with all the idiots that call, you'll still make a ton of money.

skellyo 02.27.2010 09:04 AM

So tell me why I should get charged if I call 911 to report an accident I've witnessed?

rawfuls 02.27.2010 11:51 AM
