Quark brains board dead, fix? or MMM?

Hey guys, was testing power system yesterday and then suddenly the motor stopped, no smoke or anything, the LED's still sequence properly, but the motor doesn't turn. However the FET's on the brain board get hot quickly, not VERY hot, but probably at least 170F. I have not checked if there is a short somewhere yet, but I would think the ESC would not work at all if that were the case?

Anyways, I would need a new control board to get it running again, if that is the problem. Otherwise, do you guys think it's time I give up the "FrankenQuark" and get a MMM? I will sure miss it. I race my Revo now, so whichever the racers out there recommend getting, either MMM or RX8?

Do you seriously call it the FrankenQuark?
I like QuarkenStein better.

haha, me too actually. It sure has lasted a long time... ancient really in average controller lifetime's, especially for a Quark. Almost 3 years old now I think.

Anyways, does anyone have a spare brain board that they don't need? Or should I just let it die with dignity and get a MMM or RX8?

You would be so much happier with a MMM! I switched years ago and have never needed to look back, well maybe only for a short time after version 1.

I've got a couple functional quarks I cold be convinced to part with reasonably.
A 125 and an 80 I think. LMK if you are interested.

Okay thanks guys, if I stick with the Quark, then I want to do a 'brains' transplant on Quarkenstein, as in I would like to keep the power board and cap bank part of it. I just want to do it right, I don't really have experience with 'desoldering' little solder posts like this.

Would you guys recommend a MMM over a RX8 though, and vice versa? What are the advantages to both in racing environment? Quarkenstein only ran about 10F over ambient temp, placed on a mount over front shocks.

For the 10th scale I choose Castle MMpro, for 8th scale I prefer Tekin RX8.
