finally got truggy (crt x2)
 

i managed to snag a nice, lightly used crt x2 off of another forum for a decent price. i will not say the price, but i did not pay as much as he was asking.:lol:

the only upgrade is a set of kingheadz chassis braces. it will be here on thursday. it is coming with 3 bodies, the spare rims in the picture, and the crimefighters in the picture.
i already ordered a rc-m motor mount and 15t pinion. i'm still trying to figure out how i'm going to mount the battery/batteries. i might just try to modify my home/made battery tray that came with the buggy i bought from jason. it isn't half bad for home-made and it simple and quick to use. i will be using a castle/neu 2200kv motor. i was planning on using a bidmotor motor, but my savage flux's motor rarely breaks 100-120F and has crazy power, so i will just shell out the $130-140 for a cc/neu 2200kv.

if there are any upgrades or suggestions/modifications that this truggy needs to race and/or bash good, post them here.

Why not a Castle 1518 1800kV ? It would be more efficient in a truggy (longer run times and cooler temps) More over the cost wont be much higher than a 1515 2200kV.

i was under the impression that if my cc/neu 1515 2200kv motor pushes my ~14lb savage without breaking 120F, it would have no trouble with a 10lb truggy. besides, i already ordered a 15t pinion which will put the top speed at 38mph on 4s with the 2200kv motor.

anyone else think i should get a 1518 1800kv?

edit: the lowest price i have found for the 1515 is $130 shipped and the cheapest for the 1518 is $180 shipped.

FWIW, I picked up a X2 CRT not long ago off of rctech as well. I haven't assembled the conversion yet, but I picked up the RCM motor mount and long battery tray. Mine will be run on 5S with a MMM and Castle/Neu 1520/1Y (1600kv). While the 1515 does a good job in a truggy, I wanted some silly power in this one. Besides, I've already got a X1 CRT with a 2200kv combo in it.

The crt x2 can run on 5s with the 1515 1y all day long with no heat issues geared for 40mph.

what about 4s geared for 38mph?

i've seen plenty of truggies with this combo on 4s and i have yet to see a properly geared setup break 150F.

it would be fine on 4s geared in that range. the 1800 would be better with a a larger battery prehaps 5s but other than that both motors are a good choice for 5s when geared accordingly it would be a waste of a motor to run the 1518 on 4s

Are you guys using the RC-M mount made for the CRT X1?

EDIT: Wow I completely passed over the X2 mount in the store...

a 1520 would be perfect in a truggy. I don't break 100°F in my buggy with the 1515, but don't forget that the lower your motor temp is, and the better your motor efficiency is ! That mean longer run times and less amps on ESC and motor.
Besides, where your 1515 will consume 120amps in 4S, the 1520 will consume only 80amps on 6S (with same gearing), so you have all to gain by taking a lower kV motor.
The motor is more expansive but I think it is well worth the price !

It will be far too heavy with that setup as that is a bout what pushes my muggy silly and it would only really be good for drag racing as it will be too heavy to race or bash without hard bottoming out,I would stay with a 1515 sized motor, anything under 2200kv would be fine for 4-5s

Im looking at a x2 truggy right now. If i pick it up, will definitely go with the 1518 on 5s. Should be perfect geared for 40mph.

Why wouldn't you run the 1518 on 6s? That's what I'm going for in my X2.

33,300rpms and the power of the 1518 will be more than enough. I know Bondonutz uses his 1518 in a heavy LST conversion on 5s and it has no problem! My X2 will be much lighter than a LST. However, I do have sets of 6s packs here. Wouldn't be a problem.

do you think there could be a risk of undergearing the 1518, if I'd gear for 40mph on 6s?

I would take a 1520 on 6S geared for 40-45 mph, lower amp, lower motor speed, higher torque ===> happy ESC, happy motor !
