Too good to be true 2.4ghz radio?
Hey, i'm curious if anyone has any experience/feedback on this pretty dang cheap MX Sport 2.4ghz radio from Airtronics? I've never used any of their products, i've been a Spektrum man for years with good results, but soon i'll be getting a Baja 5T and I will eventually ditch the FM radio for a 2.4ghz. But i'm having a harder time justifying spending the money on a DX3S radio when I could come out major money ahead getting the MX Sport. Though I do like the aspect of the telementry with speed and temp monitoring of the DX3S, being the computer geek that I am, but man, its pricey. And at $80, the MX Sport freaking half the price of a comparable Spektrum DX3.0 which just astounds me.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXXZJ4&P=SM I'm wondering though, whats going to be my tradeoff with something this cheap in comparison to say, the very popular Futaba 3PM or even the DX3.0? Thanks for any incite. http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...603FF-Receiver http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...iver-No-Servos |
IMHO you can't you can't go wrong with Airtronics.

telemetry IMO is only needed for nitro racers.
i have a DX3S and have used the telemetry on both my nitro buggy that i raced, and the E-revo. pretty much useless on the revo besides a speed guage which is cool (temps once geared properly are fine) but nitro on the other hand (dont worry ive sold it now hehe) well the timer is awesome so you know when your next pit stop is coming up, temp is handy for tune and RX pack voltage is awesome!! but on a 5B...well...ive NEVER known a zenoah engine to overheat and dont them suckers get like 20 min runtime? and a 8000mah 2s lipo for an all day RX pack would be easy to make. rendering the spektrum DX3s pretty useless. i'd go for a normal DX2.0 then convert it to a DX3.0 with the resister mod. leave it at that. With a digital adjustments and 10 model memory the only thing you are set to lose is a bunch of advanced features most people never use anyway. Airtronics makes good product and I have no doubt that's a good radio. Much better than blowing 80 bucks on the TRX 2.4 with no where near that ones features.

Ok, nice radio and price, but what happens when you want another Rx for model #2? You have to spend $80-100 again on just a receiver. That is unless Airtronics is releasing another 3ch receiver that will be cheaper...

i have an airtronics fm radio and except for the typical fm glitching, i love it. that radio is a good deal.
if you want to spend even less, the $25 radio from hobbycity is great. i have one and run all 4 of my rc's with it and have never had one glitch. i have taken my extended savage with a bright orange body as far as i can see it and still had perfect control. also, my local track is right under some huge powerlines and people constantly complain about their radios glitching there. mine hasn't had one hiccup. the only downsides to the hobbycity radio are it is 2ch and it doesn't have many programming options. in my experience, you really don't need anything more than steering and throttle trim with those huge 1/5 scales anyway. |
I love my Airtronics MX-3FG FHSS-2. It goes out of site and still has a connection it seems.

Schweet, this is the radio I will get when its time to replace my stock Baja radio later this summer. Thanks for all the input, you saved me a good chunk of change!
