After fooling with the 5b a bit I decided the chassis was just not good for a conversion. The gas motor is a stressed member of the rear chassis, and it would be better to design a better suited chassis for electric. It could be much lighter and stronger.
My power options were to be a pair of 1521 2y motors on 12s lipo.
His idea is not too bad, but the motors have too high kv, the pinions are too big and the use of 4s is a joke. I would go with 1200kv motors, and 6s lipo. I have a feeling a pair of 1515 3y motors, with MMMs on 6s lipo would be the ticket, if you made a composite chassis that was much lighter.
I plan to make a 5b sized vehicle, 4wd using muggy components. This will be very simple and should work well. It will be light too, around 12lbs. Just going to take a while, way too much going on these days.
