LST and LST XXL
So here we going on this adventure. I started off purchasing a LST roller, pretty clean, for $100 shipped. I thought not a bad deal, so lets do it. I got the roller in and felt good with my purchase and got to thinking about conversion time.

So I hit up the local ebay chop shops and scored most of the conversion parts for $50 shipped. Then I got to thinking, hell I'm a couple parts away from a brand new complete XXL roller. Then I could have 2 LST setups. So I started pricing around and gathering information on the remaining parts needed to convert it. After some thought, I decided to finish my Revo 3.3 conversion and sell it as a RTR and then set up a waterproof LST for bashing and swimming and a LST XXL for higher speeds and bashing. New parts and goodies: http://images2c.snapfish.com/2323232...3A795343nu0mrj http://images2c.snapfish.com/2323232...3A248343nu0mrj http://images2d.snapfish.com/2323232...3A244343nu0mrj My plans are: LST, MMM (waterproofed), 1500kv-1900kv motor, on 5/6s 5000 35C, stock Losi Claw tires, seal up the electronics and servos as well. I plan on putting some super thick oil into the Fr/Rr diffs to act as a lock. If that doesn't suit my needs, I'll probably throw some silly putty in there for the full lock effect. My intentions are like a Summit with less crawling ability but more speed. LST XXL, MMM, 1521/1Y/S on 6s. Losi ATX tires or Wedge Sand tires. This truck is going to be intended for straight bashing around and opening her up on the street. I'm going to attempt to use a Tekno motor mount and a TDR single speed hub and probably get a tray from Mike. thoughts or concerns? |
get help. you have an addiction (like the rest of us), lol.
|
Hmmm - your probably going to get yours done before I do! Hope you got all your parts, 'cause I dont wanna be bidding against you!
Let me know if you want my LST Hard Core Arms. I got 'em cheap. |
Well another parts pile later and I have an almost complete XXL roller(minus a transmission). I had to rob a couple screws from the other LST to get it together but I'll be ordering new parts to swap back into the XXL. I also need to figure out a battery tray.
I have to say I felt extremely newbish to LST stuff while work on these trucks. I didn't realize that the XXL uses 20mm hexes however the nuts are standard 17mm. I went searching high and low for something along a 20mm wrench or socket. Then I tried and realized it was a 17mm. What a sigh of relief and embarrassment. The TD-Racing products came in. I absolutely love the functionality and structure of the motor mount. An absolute must have for those doing conversions! I'll be using a single JR9100T servo in the XXL. I'll most likely stick with the stock dual servos in the LST. Time for some pictures: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../Photo0213.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../Photo0214.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../Photo0215.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../Photo0216.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../Photo0217.jpg And here's the power for the XXL, a Neu 1521/1Y/S http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../Photo0207.jpg There's a lot of real estate on the XXL chassis. I may pick up another XXL chassis and rails to swap into the LST. However, I may look into using a Revo transmission offset to the side and mount the batteries next to the tranny. All weight in the middle of the truck. |
That motor looks SICK in the chassis !
Plans look solid, should be a excellent basher for you ! BTW, PM sent about the needed parts. |
NICE!!!! THat 1521 should be great in there.
|
Thanks guys!
Just need the tranny and slipper assembly. I'm probably going to pick up an Aftershock tranny since they come FOC already. |
What do you guys think about a 1527/1.5D on 6s in the XXL and the 1521/1Y on 6s in the LST?
I can get a nice deal on a brand new 1527 right now... The excess power should prove very efficient and have everything running cool. My main concern would be amperage spikes. I know they can draw large amps when worked. |
Holy shimozzle! How hard are you going to work it?
I would probably get it anyway, if it's a good deal. |
Any thoughts on the 1527? or just pick up another 1521/1Y?
|
I'm no expert on amp spikes, draw, etc. But torque is king in my book, so I'd give it a shot if it was me.

I just ordered Losi part #losb3120. Its the new bevel geared that come with the E-LST kit. With this gear change in the transmission, it should open up gearing choices a bit. This will make the transmission overall gearing to be 1.72 and if you do the swap mod it will be 1.575. This will make gearing the lower KV motors much easier while being limited to Mike 26T pinion of the 2-speed adapters.

Wow! Just gave it the maiden voyage, and WOW! The 1521 is super strong. Everything ran ICE cold! I need to up the gear ratio tho. It tops out QUICK. I'll probably swap in the XXL bevel gears into the tranny for now until Losi releases the gears from the E-LST conversion. I'll also look into the swap mod, and possible a 59T spur. Right now 26/63 is fun! Great bashing speeds. I definitely think this system and push more MPH tho.
I really like these Losi Sand Wedges! They act like shovels and just dig! I'm looking into some Muggy hubs so that I can run some of the 17mm wheels I already have as well. I'll try to take some video later. |
Let me know what part numbers you need for those hubs - I have a bunch of extra muggy stuff new in packages. I think I might even have an extra set of 17mm hubs for one (but I'd have to look through everything to know for certain).
|
Jeff- It should be LOSB3516.
I put another run on everything. Man this truck is fun and has some power! Everything is ICE cold! All below 90*F with me bashing it pretty hard. I'm impressed. |
