Just put my Rc Car Gearing app on Android market :-D

Hi,

I just put a little application I've been working on Android market. So if you have a Android phone, give it a try and let me know what you think of it.

I use it for calculating top speeds and grearing of my cars, good to have when you want to change motor or battery and gear for same top speed etc ...

Hope you like it, my first app on the market, kind of proud. :yipi:

EDIT: name of app: Rc Car Gearing

Nifty, but can you add a bit more variance to the pinion and spur options. Like 30t min and 70t max for the spur and 10-30t for the pinion?

I am guessing by interval gears in the settings screen you mean internal gearing in a transmission, like a revo has for example?

Cool, I like it.

Yes you can, just change the "center" on the interval for the spur or pinion. For example you could have a pinion range of [10-30] if you set the center to 20, and for the spur, a center of 60 gives you [50-70] The range of the slider of the pinion and spur will always be center value -/+ 10 if I use a wider range it can get hard to pinpoint the teeth count you like with your finger. ;-)

Oh, and yes, the internal ratio is transmission + diffs, that is everything after the spur gear to the wheels. In a revo you have gear box + diffs, in a 1:8 buggy you only have the diffs, like 4.3 in my Ve8.

A name would help lol

Search for "rc car" and it's the only one...

Edit: Cool app!

Makes sense now. Thanks for claifying that. I will have to figure out the ratios for the monster trucks. Maybe if you decide to make another version have another feild that could be left at 1 for buggies/truggies and then have other ratios entered in for vehicles with transmissions?

Otherwise nice app!

I just use the web based one in my WM phone :) Works very well Opera 9.7 and 10

hahaha.. This weekend I was just reading up on the Andriod SDK and programming apps. I was wanting to do the same thing.
However, I don't know anything about programming Java, and the last programming I did was when I was 8 programming simple Basic games on a Dos PC.

How hard was it? Do you have programming exp? I just want to do some simple things, and was wondering if someone w/ my limited skills can do it.

BTW.. GO ANDROID!!!!!!

d/l'ing now!

It's just too bad the Android SDK wasn't usable on any device, not just limited to an Android. I think I'll personally stick to web apps for now.

Good job though judging from the screenshots!

downloaded it

it looks like you put some work into it but you have along way before it could ever replace BrianG's web page.

you need to add smaller spurs and bigger pinions for us speed demons

off topic

thankyou BrianG, for the last year or 2 i have used you page almost weekly

From what I was reading, they want to push Android OS onto many other consumer devices, not just phones. Phones are just the start.

The iphone OS will always be limited to Apple products and jealously guarded by Jobs. Windows is a mess and a bit directionless by MS.

Android, being open source, can be adapted to all sorts of "smart" devices in need of a flexible, small, but powerful pre-built OS. The mythological smart fridge, but even bluray players, tvs, car entertainment systems ( MS has Sync, which is WinXP based.) I could even see it move into areas like automation, PLCs, instrumentation, etc etc, where there isn't a really big standard OS, and each company has to develop its own little OS to run the instrument, or cobble together an array of existing programs to try and make it work

That's the hope anyway.

Well, it won't be the first time that something "better" doesn't get widely adopted. Look at the Betamax vs VHS wars...

Java is supposedly a solid platform since it is cross-OS (depending on the compiler), secure, etc. We're just gonna have to wait and see I guess.
