Question for the LST Diff Experts...

I recently put LST diffs in my erbe and it fits great. I have one question tho. I am running a Tekin RX-8 and 2250 KV T-8 motor in the system. Well since I put the LST diffs in the machine, when I run half throttle and then squeeze the trigger it kind of "stalls" where it hesatitates to power up. When I hammer the throttle from stop it runs balls out...Could it just be the LST diffs need to be broken in?

Did you adjust your gearing for the different ratios on the LST diffs?

No, I left it the same so I could see how it ran....it runs great when I blast it, it just kind of stutterswhen i jam on it when Im driving half speed....

Ran the machine today and no delay whatsoever...weird...think it could have been the diffs were brand new and needed to be broken in?

isnt half throttle also the point where the sencorless mode comes in on the tekins?

To be honest I dunno....

From what I've read on the RX8s, sensorless doesn't really kick in. It's more like a gradation, the more throttle is applied, the more sensorless you are and vice versa. My understanding is it's full sensorless at full throttle and full sensored at 0 throttle and mixed beyond that. My guess is you are severely undergeared and that may be causing some of the issue. With my E-Revo diffs I need around an 18t pinion, with 8ight diffs, it's around a 22.

Well i was geared 21/58, and I recently geared up to 24/58. Do you think that is too agressive? I checked the temp after one run and it was 150ish. I am using a MC center diff in the machine as well....Ran it again today and it was an absoloute beast...it really does handle a bit different...more "stiff"..

I'd run it through Brian Gs calculator. It sounds like you're in the ballpark (if not maybe a little overgeared). Still running smooth?

yeh it runs smooth....I put it in brian g's calculator and I think it was 39 MPh...(I run 4s)

Figured put what it was....the screws on my center diff backed out on the front side of the diff and dug into the tranny....the diff is fine, but the tranny has some serious grooves in it...looks like im looking for a new tranny....I fixed the center diff and gave it a test drive for one minute in the dark and it's running fine for now....

Sounds like

It sounds like you need some "Loctite". If you want to avoid having screws backing out on your rig you might want to start using loctite on your screws to keep them in place during heavy loading. Use the Blue loctite for screws you want to be able to remove regularly, and RED for those that are more permenant.

Jerry, I do need to point out that loctite is intended for situations in which the screw goes into a metal part. My guess in this case (as most center diffs use plastic housings) is that the screw goes into plastic. If this is the case, loctite can actually melt or warp the plastic. Some CA might not be a bad idea though. We use that a lot on plastic connections to help keep screws from backing out.

Sorry about that.

Sorry about that. I did not see one mention of it being plastic or that it was a stock plastic setup. All I read was that a screw backed out and gouged his tranny.

Yeh its an 1/8th scale center diff...so I may add a little thread locker to it....the tranny is functional at the moment but as anal as I am just knowing there could be a problem bothers me !
