savage x conversion battery questions??

I have done a brushless savage x conversion with a mamba max esc, an ammo 36-56-1800kv motor, 2 4500 nimh packs, stock spur & 15t pinion(i think), locked in second gear... If I switch to 2-2s1p-20c 5000mah lipo packs will I notice a great increase in performance & runtime?? also has anyone tried a 775 titan motor or the dewalt 14.4 in a savage?? I have seen emaxxes with the 775 or dewalt & they ran very well..

thanks for the input

First, Due to the weight of the savage, the mm esc is to small IMO. If you do switch to li-po batteries, I HIGHLY suggest getting a bigger esc like a mamba monster or a RX8 by Tekin. If you are planning on running a 4s li-po set up you will have to get a new esc anyway as the mm esc is only rated for 3s max.

Yes, a li-po setup done correctly will give you more power and run time.

If you try to skimp on your electronics...buying lower budget items, you will be disappointed and end up spending much more $ in the end.

Put it this way, a lot of guys w/Savages are running 5 and 6s set ups

So if i am to stick with nimh batteries are there any suggestions on the best packs to use with this setup?? I was looking at the promatch 5000mah 6 cell stick packs..

Your missing a big point bro, If you run 2 battery packs in series you will need a higher amp handleing ESC regardless.
IF YOU CAN, Stay away from NiMH packs. They will get over worked and fry in time. The money spent of high qaulity NiMH packs will buy mid qaulity Lipos and you'll have longer run times, cooler temps, more power, and their lighter weight.

This is a example of how inexpensive Lipos are.
These are half the price of a qaulty NiMH

I know about lipos I have been considering them for quite some time but the problem is..
2 batteries = $40
1 charger = $100
1 esc to handle lipos $150
total= near $300
The setup I have is paid for & woking just looking to get alittle better run time out of it..
The esc is rated 100 amp & the mamba monster is 120 amp is that enough to justify a new esc??

I was just going to go for the 2 lipo packs & a charger but it seems that that isnt the good idea..
2 7.2v nimh = 14.4
2 7.4 lipo = 14.8
will a half a volt difference smoke the electronics??

Half way down the page, right side.

As awesome and tough as a Mamba Max is, it's rated for 3s/11.1 volts only. (IF) you let the smokle out you'll have no warrentee to fall back on. I personally have used a MM w/4s with limited use successfully and have seen other guys also do it. Doesn't make it the right thing to do nor is it exactly safe.
Just trying to help out, good luck.
something to consider ?

MambaMonster would be a better choice but since your on a budget.

the accucell 6 charger is the one i got when i first got lipos. that was over a year ago and mine is still working great. they are limited to 50w (not a problem for 2s packs) and they balance very accurately. i highly recommend it.
