Hailing 8T 2.0 Drivers

Ok girls, I'm fixing to do another conversion and I've thought long and hard about which truggy to work off of and I'm fixing to go Losi for the first time. My decision came down to who I thought had the more robust diffs to take on the brushless abuse, parts cost, and which model looked to turn on a dime. The diff gears on the 2.0 appear to be straigth cut unlike all the other guys whith their sprial cut buggy gears. I don't like sprial cut diff gears. I find them all to be far too sensitive to shimming at 5s power levels.
So, I have come to all, requesting help.

Firstly, last call on any reason why I shouldn't go with the 8T? They don't seem too popular on this forum for conversions.

Secondly, for those who do favor such a path, I am trying to round up what I need to upgrade or be aware of. I've read this much so far:
1) Something makes them eat servos and it is either a servo saver spring that is way too strong, a servo saver spring's coils bottoms out on itself and doesn't compress enough to allow the servo saver to work, and/or the plastics used on the servo saver cam parts were binding together due to the wrong plastics being used at first. I have no idea what is right here but I found a definate trend around the web. The reccomendation was to swap in 1.0 servo saver gear.
2) Is there a Short vs Long throw steering arm option? What is this, what's the difference, and which way should I go?
3)What else should I know?

Thx all!

I was debating this same question a couple days ago. I was on the verge pulling the trigger on a new 8ight T 2.0 race roller, espeically with the $150 mail in rebate from losi. But I found a killer deal on a 1 run converted RC8T FT ARTR with a Tekin RX8 system. I couldn't pass up the deal.

There are 2 guys that just converted 8T 2.0's at my local track. 1 is running a Tekin 2250 system, the other is running a Losi 2100 system. These trucks are Killer on the track and make the Nitro's look silly.

I say go for it! i would have...

Thx nitrostarter...........

Any others who can also possibly shed light on the reliability issues?

8ights are kick@ss!

I have had my 1.0 Buggy for a year now, Bought it used. Havent ever touched diff gears. Running everything from Tekin to a MMM 2200... Front diff has been loud since i got it, never shimmed it, still holds up great, Race her every weekend.

No problems whatsoever.. Waiting for mike to call me back, he has my truggy to mock up the losi conversion kit! so dont buy the losi brand, the battery tray's suck.

Cadima, I have a 8T 2.0 that I converted and previously had a 8T 1.0 that was converted also. I will say that you are correct about the servo saver spring being too strong. I have seen a suggestion about using a Fioroni servo saver spring from Amain hobbies. I am going to try it since I destroyed the gears twice in an AE XP DS1015, which is supposed to be pretty good. Another issue about all 8ights is the wear of the front center driveshaft. The angle of center diff to front diff makes the driveshaft wear faster than the rest of the driveshafts. As far as the battery tray, if you use velcro on the tray and the battery you shouldn't have any problems with breaking the tray due to nosediving. I am running a Tekin 1700 combo on 5S running 16/45. This is probably fast enough for most but I previously on the 1.0 had the MMM 2200 combo and it is faster. Granted I absolutely love the sensored action of the Tekin setup I will probably upgrade to the Tekin 2000 motor. Hope this helps, just my .02 cents.

I threw in a 1.0 spring and it seems a bit too soft. I also rounded off the peak of the cam surfaces on the saver arms so they'd roll up on each other easier. We'll see...........

First, I would, again and again. Your also gonna want to get some 1.0 lower shock ends "call Bill at horizon", he will probrably just send you some. You may also want to get some aftermarket rear hubs,"for a bigger outer bearing" i use the integy.Smart diffs. "YES" ,but that is a whole other thread.

That thing looks killer!

Little too much tire for me personally but the paint is fantastic! Looks low and fast!

What lid?

bryan 04.14.2010 01:27 PM

"lid" appears to be factory. with a very cool paint scheme

Beautiful paint job!
I really like the truck Losi 8t. Where I live there are many running with Losi nitro. Mine is the first to be transformed to electric and I am very happy with it.
Someone would advise me how to configure my ces mmm.
It would be helpful if I show a typical configuration parameters of the CES and its bends.
I am using in my Losi 8t 5s lipos 4 amps and other 5s 5 amperes.
The spur is 45t and 14t pinion is.
I would like the engine work less temperature since the last time you use it I get to about 167 º F. With an outside temperature of 77 º, after about 8 minutes of use on a soft dirt floor.
Thanks!

Well, threw one together today. My fastest build no doubt..clean and I didn't have to make any custom parts which is new for me! Only thing I had to modify was shaving off one of the screw bosses from the dirt guard that intefered with the motor, and I milled a slot under the battery tray to route the ESC wire to the Rx box. Trying to make the opening race at the local track this weekend. Aside from the lack of metric hardware on these Losi's, I get the feeling I made the right call.

its a factory lid .....and that great paint job is a body wrap by Fullassult.

tyres are GV tires thats what we use here for grass tracks, they hook up real well.
