A project i am planning for this or next year, would like Novak's opinion

I have been playing with higher voltage and lower KV motors, In 1/10 scale cars, for a few years. My current setup is a converted RC10GT with a lehner 1200XL basic motor (1200kv) running 5s lipo and a quark 80 esc, It's a beast with torque to spare and awesome runtime (near 30 minutes on a 2500 5s flightpower pack 25c rating). Anyways, I am planning my next high voltage project, It will involve the Mamba max pro and a ballistic 21.5 or 25.5 crawler motor on 5 or 6s, The gearing is going to be somewhere in the mid 30's to 40 mph. The reason i am looking at the Novak 540 based motor is the 1200 is really too much torque, it has bent and twisted the diff outputs in my Gt, The basic XL at one time was classed as a MT motor. The smaller rotor of the ballistic might be better and still oiffer the efficiency i am after. This is not a quest for power or speed, i am after efficiency and cool running, Possibly an unconventional racing setup.

I understand, If i do this, I will be taking a novak motor over its intended and warranted level of operation.

My question is, Is there anything in the design that would prevent it running at up to 6s Lipo levels? Geared correctly of course

I also intend to run it sensored, Will that be impacted by the higher than normal voltage?

Thanks and sorry for the long post

I was thinking about a ballistic 21.5 (1350 kv) crawler for my stampede on 6s 2100's with a mmp geared for upper 30's.Any input NOVAK TWO ?

As i said, I'm just asking if there is any design area that would prevent running 25 volts through a Novak motor. I know they are designed for 2s (possibly 3s) operation, I am not figuring much over 45 amps going through the motor, The lehner only gets 40 amp peaks on 5s

I am wondering if novaktwo doesn't want to answer, in case we want to blame someone. I can assure him, I take responsibility if i try this and it fails. Just want to know if there is something, built in or in the design, that would not allow it to run on 6s lipo

This doesn't answer your 6S question but someone posted a vid of a Crawler running a MMP, 4S pack, and a Novak 21.5 to show how nice and controllable the high turn sensored motor could be with the MMP.

I plan to try a MMP/21.5 myself on 4S someday if I ever get time.

I've gone 4s on a 8.5, for a few speed runs. A Novak Tech told me it would be fine. Don't know what a couple more cells would hurt, with that much lower KV.

If you have specific application questions beyond our published specs, you can always email tech@teamnovak.com or even, bob@teamnovak.com.

Is there any reason you would not use a Ballistic 550 size motor? We can offer additional wound stators in a lower Kv, if there is a demand.

Also, you do not need to use a crawler-specific 540 motor; we offer the higher wind/Kv replacement stators for our Ballistic 540 motors. Our Crawler motors have a different sensor board than our standard motors; but for this ap, it probably wouldn't make any difference.

As I have said before, you forum members posting here know more about HV applications (and everything else!) than I do..... But, Bob can always help you.

Novaktwo, I think the 550 size will have the same problem i am having with the lehner. You see, i am running the lehner 1200 basic XL in an rc10 GT converted to electric, The diff outputs have spread to the point that the dogbones slip. I am trying to lower the torque but, keep the efficiency, This is why the low KV/higher voltage smaller rotor setup. I am also intrested in using the sensored setup as well. I also believe the 550 in a kv i want would be very expensive, I am aiming for 1100 to 1500 kv. Thank you for the responce

Well I did it, so far (one run) it's working on 6s. The motor got up to 155 but I think I'm under geared going to try a gear change.

Thank you ravin, Good to know there isn't a reason, built in or in design, to prevent it running on 6s
