OK so just before Christmas Harold surprized me with a gift of joy. He had received a special kit from RCsoutions because he wanted the suspension, roll cage, and a few other items, but did not need the chassis, because it was an extended TMaxx setup. Anyway the chassis is a stamped 1/4" aluminum plate that is about 1/2" longer and an inch wider than the RCM EXT 3906 chassis. It also came in with the specail steel skids and aluminum braces to fit the rig. Well I was not sure what to do with it at first, but just knew that something would come to mind at some point. Low and behold MonsterMike came out with the universal center diff mount and Vuola. I will attempt to post up a few pics. The rest of the truck is made up of stuff I just had hanging around the shop not being used. So yes even some old Integy stuff is on there right now, because my UE Supershocks have not arrived just yet, and I do not have any other shock towers on hand. It does have UE CVD's, RCM hybrid diffs with hardened HPI diff gears, and a 1521 Neu motor. OH and a full set of UE Extended suspension arms that I just got in from one of our members for like $100. I will end up putting in an RX8 when I have the cash to do so, but I am leaving for a funeral in California this weekend. SO that has to wait.

So I had to think about how exactly I wanted to mount the new RCM center diff unit and keep everything structurally sound, while at the same time giving me enough room to take full advantage of the spur gear options I have on hand. I have from 44T up to 52T steel spur gears, and eventually I would like to try out Mikes Slipperential. So for the moment I have mounted it directly onto the titanium center skid, and managed to shave out some space on either side of the spur gear to make some room for whatever spur I want to put into it. I have some 4mm hardware coming in from BoltDepot.com so I can upgrade the mounting screws making the whole uint a bit more rigid. Plus I will rase the mount up about 1/4" to give more bottom clearance for the various sized spur gears. I believe that Mike said it would hold up to a 50T or 52T spur gear.

The other thing that I did was tap out the outer four transmission hole in the center braces to 4mm as well and added clamping screws to the mix for more strength keeping the whole setup stable and eliminating any weak spots in the chassis configuration. I will change out those screws with 12.9 grade 4mm screws and put nyloc nuts on the bottom side for even more holding power. All in all this setup is a very solid configuration and it rolls very easily. I was lucky enough to have two perfect sized center drivesafts for the driveline and it is nice and tight with cushioning in the cups, but not at all restrictive.

Oh and the wheels are Axial beadlocks with Mulchers. I picked up the whole set for $50 from one of our members here last month. Lucky me.

Cool maxx man. As for the shocks, they're msr8's right? I tried them once, they worked nice, handling wise. FYI for anyone thinking about them, they don't work with rpm arms or the thick revo style axles and the seals aren't that great.

Anyway, mounting your cd on the titanium center skid will work. Personally, I'd suggest using a thicker iece of aluminum for strength and rigidity.

Thanks guys. This is the first time I have ever really had to do any mods for putting one of these together, but it really was not to much trouble at all. The Titanium skid is actually pretty stiff. In fact it is more like having a steel plate under there. Once I make the aluminum plate to go under it to raise the mount 1/4" it will be even stronger. Yea the Integy shocks were all I had at the momnent, so they will have to do until the Supershocks arrive.

Shaun it is great to see you in here posting. We have really missed your words of encouragement and your crazy inovative ideas. Thanks for coming back to RCM to keep us company. You belong here ya know.

I am leaving for California tomorrow, so the truck will have to wait until we return next weekend. The kids are getting pretty excited about bashing at the track this summer now that we have 7 Maxx trucks. Even the wife gets to play. I setup an HCR/Integy truck for her with a Novak 4.5HV. All we need is a few good sets of batteries to get things rolling. That will come next month.

How are the diffs in the new Emaxx's? Are they strong like 1/8 truggy diffs? I remember the version 1 diffs being super weak.

Don't know anything about the new 3905 EMaxx diffs. This thread is about a year old and it was about custom 3906 Maxx trucks. No stock 3905 diffs here.

The truck pictured has the RCM hybrid combo bulk/diff setup in the front and rear, and 1/8 HPI hardened steel diff gears set in RCM Savage aluminum diff cups, but the center diff IIRC has the Robinson Racing cup on it with hardened steel gears installed. That chassis is something RCsolutions made for a super extended Maxx truck. Harold gave it to me a while back. The truck is nearly done, but all of my R/C gear is still in shipment on its way here from our move from Asia to Praha. I probably won't really get to do much of anything with my R/C's for a few more months as we get settled in here. I still have to get everything moved in and put away when our household goods show up some time in mid May. Then I have to mount all of our audio and video gear as well.

Nah its OK, because we have only been in Prague for about a month so I am still in retirement status until a part time job opens up for me. Plus with all of our stuff still in shipment there is little for me to do all day while the wife is at work. In fact she is upstairs working right now and the kids just went to bed for the night. So now it is time to surf the R/C sites and see what going on. Even though this thread has not been updated in a year the truck still lives. I hope to finish it some time this summer and have some videos once I get it operational. I have everything for it accept for some good Lipos. That to will come once I start working. SO keep an eye out, because there will be more on this project in a few months.

The newer emaxx style diffs ( 3903/05/08 ) are something of an improvement over old 3906 diffs, but they are still fatally flawed. They still use only 4 spider gears, plastic diff cup and cases- put much power through them and the spider gears get shredded, as do the ring & pinion gears.

In future I would start a new thread in the T/E-maxx parts or General Discussion sections, rather than posting an unrelated question in an old dormant build thread. :wink:
