Am I alone

or just a mentalcase ? Recently purchased my 1st r/c
and esc/motor combo , its been years since the last
one . The esc/motor took an extra week to recieve ,
do to the part was not put on order , even though
it was prepaid in ful . Within several minutes of setting
up the transmitter to calibrate the esc , an error code
pops up on screen . Now the lhs is replacing the radio .
But I was talked to like an 8 yearold and was never offered
any options , except to wait til tuesday . I believe in
supporting my local shop . Shouldn't I get alittle back
also ? After all I do have other options . I know I know
mad over toy car wwwWWWWaaaaaaaaa . A similar
situation caused me leave r/c years ago . Hey , am
I alone on this or not ?

I'm not, I order from online, but I hate the waiting, checking the tracking every hour (even in the weekend), is quite an obsession might I add..

Crap like that is the reason I don't bother with the LHS unless its something really small that I need RIGHT now, which is VERY unlikely. I always order it. The 2 LHS are here are pathetic. One in particular, which EVERY time I've been to and went to get something, they were always out of stock and had to order it. One time I went in for about 12 things, and walked out with 2. They had to order everything else (not like I waited...). One time I went in there, and the guy, who I've actually know for a long time, but still despise, told me to get a certain Rotostart and a certain OWB, yet when I got home, he gave me the wrong OWB. Guess what? He wouldn't even take it back...:whip: Damn thing only cost $20.

It's called specialty shop attitude and it's the reason I don't frequent many specialty shops.

LHS's bitch about the internet shops and how they are taking business away, but IMO, LHS are often their own worst enemy.

If I'm going to have to wait for a part to be shipped, I might as well order it myself online and get it faster and cheaper. Kills me when a LHS doesn't even have common parts,, like Savage parts. Often, if its not a Traxxas, you're SOL.

You hit the nail on the head.

To gearhead, I can think of two options:

1. Stop going to the shop and find another, or order online

2. If you don't want to buy online and this shop is the only place around you then your best bet is to learn as much as you can here, do lots of research and really learn your stuff, then when you go in to the shop be confident about what you want to buy and how you are setting up your vehicles. Show them you don't need their help or opinions or condescending treatment.

I agree, my only local hobby shop is pathetic, the only reason I get "some" of the parts I need when I walk in is because I am running a Revo, anything Truggy, FORGET about it! Half the stuff I need if I walked in I would have to order. PLUS, they buy from another online hobby shop, so the prices for parts are pretty well at least 40% more on average. I'm done with my LHS.

My LHS has some good guys (not all I should add) that will do what is required to look after the lifeblood of the business - me the customer! they seem to understand the importance of customers...

Shame the prices are so high when compared to buying from the US but I don't mind spending my money there when I need something quick

People either have to return to providing service and what the public wants to buy or they will go out of business. It's the age of the internet and you have to adapt or die.

Some LHS's have gotten it, some haven't. I don't feel sorry for the ones that haven't.

Just think, around the early part of the last century there were people employed by major city's to light lamps every night and put them out in the morning. Up until even the seventies there were milk men. Things change, adapt or die.

I'm fortunate enough to have 3 local shops to choose from, 4 if I feel like taking a 1/2hr ride. 2 local shops are good, friendly to noobs and experienced alike. One I used to frequent alot because they stocked alot and I got good cash deals. Once they stopped stocking anything but Traxxas parts and the cash deals stopped I retried another. I get good cash deals again and ordering parts is not as frequent. It happens, but 3-4 days I have it in my hands and can return it without shipping Or any penalty if need be.

The other 2 shops, just about everything has to be ordered unless it's for a tmaxx or rustler, and prices are almost full retail. Funny part is lots of people love being screwed by these guys.

I believe in supporting my local shops when I can. Mostly because it's the best way to help the hobby. It's easier to say to the guy new to the hobby, watching you run "go see Tom over here, he'll set you up." than to refer them to a website. Plus that guy will have a place to go that can fix or help out with their vehicle, alot of people around here don't fix there own stuff for some reason.

Your forgeting this hobby has a high number of noobs.

I like to support local business but it's hard to justify sometimes. So I usually just get small things I know I can get or go to see if what I want is going to fit.

bigsteel 05.17.2010 11:00 AM

My LHS usually stocks common RC parts, they may not be the best, but they have associated, traxxas, hpi, etc. And atleast a basic parts selection for all the cars they carry. Hop up wise though it's horrible! Nothing but f'ing integy which you couldn't give me for free.--Josh
