motor size question
do you think the feigao L sized motors are big enough for an 1/8 buggy?
it's just for bashing |
I had a feigao 9L in my 8ight a couple of years ago. I'd have to say similar to a 2650 on 4s with less bottom end, but overheated no matter what gearing or voltage was used. Not worth it in my opinion.

i'm trying out some different esc and motor combos and want to get an idea of what's what. not to race, but just to bash with. i don't know if you caught my monster mamba thread, but i keep breaking the bec in the mmm's from big jumps. i think i have a fix for it, but it kind of makes me uncomfortable to put all my eggs in one basket. my lhs has been picking on me the past few days, but there's a few combos that i'm trying that are showing suprising success' to bash with on my 8ight. 1. novak HV 7.5 combo. (tried it yesterday, and i like it alot. ) plus i got the whole combo for $135 from tower. tons of available power. you could easily run this on 3S as well as 4S. 2. velineon esc with a feigao 6L 4116kv or 7L 3566kv (i bought both) on 3S. this produces exactly what you said....a speed much like a 2650, but not as effecient. i don't think i could race it by any means, but it shows alot of promise for bashing. (this also gives me a waterproof buggy after i sealed my receiver box and waterproofed my servo.) the reason i'm trying this, is i was seeing a ton of single velineon E-Maxx trucks on youtube bash with great success and since the 8ight only weighs about 8-12 oz more than a slash 4x4, (depending which magazine you trust) i had to try it. the other combo with this is just to try a velineon motor combo. i have one, but no bore reducer to run mod 1 pinions. Mike's sending me a bore reducer today. another trial with the velineon is the novak HV 7.5 motor. novak motors DO work with velieneons. some of the early vxl-3s didn't, but all the new ones do. just make sure the sensor plug in plugged in well to the vxl-3. everyone at my lhs thinks i'm crazy as shit to try this, but what the hell...nothing ventured, nothing gained. i'm still gonna race my monster mambas at the track, and for speed runs, but i really needed to try something different for bashing. i'll post more results in the near future. |
Forget running the bore reducers - Soon enough you will shear the 3mm shaft...

The 2 speeds in an E-Maxx help alot when trying to run a small motor. I'm curious how the velineon would handle a xl or a kb45xl and how well they'd work on a buggy with 3s in general.

so far so good with the feigao L series....i'll try to post some video tomorrow with temp readings. i think i might be on to something here.
feigao has a new wind for their xl series. it's a 5xl 3357kv or something close to that. offshore was sold out of it yesterday. i'd really like to get my hands on one of those. i also have an order in to HK for some KD36-74XL's and while i know they have a rep for running hot, the feigaos were running very well on 3S. rain or shine, i'm gonna do more testing tomorrow. also, the 2 speeds do help alot with the velineon, but a few guys i bash with also run the 3905 single speed. they use a motor fan, but so far so good. |
