The last straw for my spektrum
The range issues have finally made a big enough impact to make me want to sell it. Pun intended, the car was over a jump when it cut out. I couldn't brake to level it and it landed at the worst possible angle on the wing. Result was a bent rear chassis brace.
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/pict...&pictureid=674 You can also see the chassis is starting to rip. It started before this but looks much worse now. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/pict...&pictureid=675 Soo.. I was looking at an airtronics mx3 but don't know if other people have had issues with them. The futaba 3pm also looks pretty good but costs a bit more. I'm kinda expecting a few people to respond with thumbs up to the 3pm so I would like to hear a few mx3 experiences. Thanks:smile: |
Personally, i'd go with the Futaba 3PM. I have yet to see a range of glitch issue with the Futaba FASST systems at the track. Futaba has always been a good choice for me.
However, on a cheap solution, the Tactic 2.4 is a great choice as well. I have yet to haveand problems with my 3 radios. |
Have a buddy whom has a Fasst system, it's nice and works very well. Extra RX's are expensive tho.
|
I run Spektrum air stuff and FASST ground stuff. I love my 3PJ and now my 3PK with FASST, BUT look at the price of recievers, that's my one major gripe. I've got 4 cars with their own RXs, at almost 100 bucks a pop, it adds up.
|
What Rx are you running? check the rx wire, my sr3300t had the wire come out.
|
If you want to get rid of the receiver, let me know.
I've had range issues only once out of at least a dozen Spektrum setups and it was due to a faulty antenna wire. I resoldered a new wire to the board (was a PITA) and it's been fine ever since. |
Thanks, I'll have a look at the antena wire tomorrow. If it works it I might keep it longer. I'm still half keen on switching though.

Hk-gt2(fly sky) Looks like doggy poop works like a Swiss watch. No bells and whistles:-( Tons of range! cheep small RX's. It replaced my Spektrum system.

IIRC the gt2 only effects $1000 sc10's, I don't know anyone that has an sc10 :yipi:
Silly thing is I have purchased one of those to sell with a nitro car. He gets better range than me :whip: I don't want one for myself 'cause the 3rd channel comes in handy on ocassion. I had a look at the tx and rx antena wires but they both looked good. I reheated the rx wire anyway but it doesn't seem to have changed. The 3pm seems to be a clear winner. I heard about the baja races in the Lancelin dunes near here. I was told the 3pm is the only one that didn't have any issues. I don't know the whole range of radios being used but there was about 50 cars. So does anyone know where they are cheap? Mike doesn't seem to have much in the way of radios. |
Mike can get you anything at a good price if you email him or post in the I need mike thread
|
Sweet. I'll give him a hoy. Thanks Arkt1k.

Only thing I'll say bad about the 3pm is this. I had an older model tx and for some strange reason it would only bind to the original rx that came with it. I could bind the old rx to another tx and rebind it back to the original tx, but couldn't get a new rx to bind to the old tx. So my advice is don't buy a used 3pm unless you know its fairly new or the 3pmx model. Otherwise they are a great radio, and in my experience the rx can take a beating so I wouldn't be afraid to buy used ones to keep costs down.

I had my rc's as small as an ant in distance with a dx3s and rx, there is lag at that distance but never have I lost signal. I have heard of signal loss with spektrum but have never experienced it.
Sounds like you were close to it too, kind of a bummer. The traxxas 2.4 that came with my Slash 4x4 had really good distance capabilities as well. Might serve as a less expensive alternative. |
