Going To 32p (Mod .8) On My Rustler
Ok, so I'm tired of the wobbly spurs and would like to use a Jato spur gear on my Rustler. I just want to make sure all the things I think I know are correct.

When I had a problem with wobbly spurs on my Rustler it was because of a defect in the slipper. Never had a problem with the spurs themselves. You just want to make certain that the problem is with the spurs, or changing to 32p won't help.

I guess it could be a problem with the slipper. I was hoping that the 32p gears wouldn't care as much about a little wobble if they still wobble. The larger teeth should have a higher tolerance for what an acceptable spacing is, right?

I'd first check the slipper for wobble by rotating it without a spur installed. The defect on mine that I mentioned (and others have seen) was a bit of extra metal in the pin slot itself where the plate fits over the pin. I tiny bit of extra metal there will throw the whole slipper assembly off signficantly.
If your slipper has no wobble - then carefully installing the spur, tightening the screws together (not one all the way) should give you no wobble (unless the spur is warped to begin with). Again, I never had a problem with a spur gear itself -just the slipper. |
