Stretched revo conversion

So,I've been eyeing some 7075 t-6 Al at my local machinist shop and have thought of a decently easy project for my personal graduation present.
I'd like to make a double deck layout similar to a g-revo chassis but streched, running and emaxx tranny and make custom shock towers to accomodate 1/8 buggy big bore shocks to basically make the erevo XL that never was. But I do have a few questions:

has anyone else done this?
If so how long did you make it? I was thinking savage xl length so I can still have a large body selection,or should I just make the leap to a 1/6 scale truck and run FG bodies?
I personally beleive the revo shocks are already insufficient for the truck, and I think I can easily fit buggy shocks in a lengthened chassis, anyone else agree or have any ideas/suggestions?
If anyone has any input or ideas I'd love to hear them!

Hmmm, 1/8 scale front BB buggy shocks sounds pretty cool. That'll be a long throw suspension fer sure !
Hobao Hyper 9 17mm shocks would be a great candidate for that !

Cool,I'll check those shocks out! I just got tired of trying to chase the right setup with the overworked standard shocks, and I might be able to make this a pseudo crawler with all the articulation it'll have!
I'm still looking for a good length to do though, not sure if I want savage XL size or even bigger--Josh

If you do this you WILL need to upgrade to 1/8 diffs...RCM hybrid diffs are the ticket. The stock ones will not last 5 mins. will all the added weight.

I did a revo conversion awhile back and also wished for a longer truck...maybe 2-3 " longer. More than that and you would need to extend the wheels out a bit to keep the handling right.

2-3" is about what I was looking at,at that point I could still use XL bodies and other large truggy bodies.as for diffs,I was planning on mikes diffs if I can afford them of course I did have some ideas to make bulkhead spacers to make them fit standard 1/8 diffs--Josh

I'm not so sure the long buggy shocks will work. They need to be matched to the proper rockers. The std Revo ones will not give you much less artic.

You will need to design completely different rockers with diff progressive rates. I think they would have to be much wider at the shock lever point. G/l fitting them on the stock bulkhead.

Also, depending on how you do the rockers, you will need to have absurdly high spring rates. Likely higher than is available for buggies. I think the Revos springs are about 35lb/in on the higher end. Its the heavy springs and huge forces that does the setup in imo. I think the spring length is not so much the issue, but the diameter needs to be much larger, and all the hardware and seals need to be larger and more HD.

Best yet, get rid of the silly cantilever design all together ;)

Sorry for the piss parade. Its just the design leaves little room for reworking imo.

I'm not really looking for huge artic. It's just an Added bonus. I'm looking for durability of the shocks and buggys fit the bill.if I could find some in a relatively short length I could make them fit the stock chassis and find some springs from there. There has got to be a better shock setup than a stock revo setup.--Josh

I just bought some standard hyper 8 shocks (my lhs had no BB) and I'm going to try a proof of concept, because I'm not trying to get massive artic. I'll move the mount farther back on the chassis to accomodate the extra length therefore It won't matter if they are larger as the skids will still bottom out long before the shocks do as this project is mostly for the increased durability of the buggy shocks.I'll post back later on my findings, the hyper shocks aren't that much longer so I should be able to accomodate them on the standard chassis pretty easily.in fact, the fronts will be mounted with cut down rocker posts and locknuts to where the servo wire routing clips were.--Josh
